Another key match awaits Tamás Feczkó’s side from 14:00 on Saturday away to fourth-placed Mezőkövesd. We are nine points ahead of the hosts in the table and a win could take us one step closer to promotion.

Mezőkövesd are winless in their last three home league matches, while the all-time record also gives us something to make up for, as we could win in Matyóföld for the first time since 2020.

Several members of our squad previously played for the yellow-and-blues: Tomas Tujvel, Ákos Baki, Branko Pauljevic and Zoltán Medgyes. Dominik Csontos was also contracted to Mezőkövesd but did not appear in a competitive match. Among our summer signings, Kevin Kállai also has Mezőkövesd history, having made 58 NB I and 12 NB II appearances in the Matyó shirt. Interestingly, Mezőkövesd’s last-ever NB I goal was also scored by him.

Shared match history:

We have played 27 competitive matches against Mezőkövesd so far.

Most of our meetings with the Matyóföld side have come in NB I. One of the most memorable was in 2017, when we came from a goal down to win 5–1 away in Borsod, before our club celebrated its 14th league title at the end of the season.

The two sides also met in the 2020 Hungarian Cup final. Pekár László answered Nesterov’s own goal, but Djordje Kamber’s header eventually decided the destination of the trophy.

The teams have met twice in NB II so far. On the first day of September 2024 we beat the yellow-and-blues for the first time at Bozsik Arena, with only Bartusz’s consolation goal replying to strikes from Benedek Simon and Zoltán Medgyes. In the March return fixture, the hosts won 2–0 through a Szendrei brace.

We last met the Matyóföld side at the end of October, winning a goal-filled match 5–2. Zuigeber’s header gave us an early lead, before the visitors quickly equalised through a Baki own goal. After the opening quarter of an hour the scoreboard already showed 2–1 to us as Csontos restored our advantage from the penalty spot. In the second half Zuigeber’s second goal increased the lead, and although a Varjas header brought Mezőkövesd back into the match, substitutes Medgyes and Pinte completed the 5–2 final score.
