The programme will be hosted by Erzsébet Fazekas, who has more than 30 years of professional experience. One of SportTV’s defining figures welcomed two key players, Dominik Csontos and Zoltán Medgyes, to the first episode. During the conversation they spoke not only about events on the pitch, but also gave an insight into the dressing-room atmosphere and their private lives.
As is known, based on the votes of the five-member board, Zoltán Medgyes and Dominik Csontos received the Player of the Month award in November. Speaking about the individual recognition, our defender stressed that November had been a successful but exceptionally busy month. He feels it would not have been fair for only one of them to receive the award.
“It was a fair draw, if you can put it that way. It was an important month for Medgyó – Zoltán Medgyes, ed. – as well, because that was when he scored against Vasas, which mattered a great deal. Looking back, I also had a good month. The cup match must have been a huge experience for the supporters too, because we managed to eliminate a very strong Debrecen side” – he said.
Our forward registered five goals and three assists in the league during the autumn season. Speaking about his performance, he stressed that there is still room for improvement in his finishing.
“I still need to improve my finishing a little, because I could already be on seven or eight goals, but I’m not discouraged. Hopefully life will give some of that back to me now. I’m happy that the team is performing like this, and hopefully we can maintain this form.”
Dominik Csontos stressed that the team had completed a well-structured pre-season, as alongside physical work and developing strength and endurance, the squad also bonded well.
“The new player settled in well, as did the youngsters; they can turn to anyone for any kind of help. The atmosphere was very good and we played a lot of board games whenever we had the chance” – our player summed up his experience.
Regarding the three warm-up matches, Zoltán Medgyes added that the team was characterised by determination and tactical discipline, although the side still needs to improve its attacking play.
We began the spring season with a win after pre-season
On Monday, in the 16th round of the Merkantil Bank Liga, we beat Videoton FC Fehérvár 2–1 through goals from Ákos Baki and Dominik Csontos. At the post-match press conference head coach Tamás Feczkó stressed that his team had overcome a very well-prepared Vidi side.
“Of course the players also talk among themselves; we knew they had come through a difficult pre-season with lots of running and gym work. You could see that in them, because they brought a very hard-fought match to Bozsik. The win was very important for us too, just as Fehérvár came for points, and you could feel that throughout. Perhaps it wasn’t a great tactical battle that dominated this time, but rather willpower, which is also why all three goals came from set pieces.”
Zoltán Medgyes added that the team’s primary objective had been to keep all three points at home, but as Tamás Feczkó had previously mentioned, there is still room for improvement in their play.
“We can play better than this and I think we will. That is what we will focus on in the next matches. If we take to the pitch with this determination and mentality and combine it with good football, it will help us enormously.”
Promotion is our shared objective
Thanks to the successful start to spring, we increased our lead at the top to five points and therefore continue into the next round from first place. There is no doubt that promotion to the top flight is the aim of our professional staff, players and supporters, but according to our player it must not be experienced as pressure.
“We must not experience this as pressure. There was pressure last year when we were in a more difficult situation. Now, however, I think we need to be characterised by a kind of ‘joyful football’. We are happy to be top of the table, but at the same time we have a shared goal in the dressing room that we defined together with the staff and the players, and that is what we are trying to achieve.
“It is an honour to wear the shirt of a club with such a great history”
Zoltán Medgyes joined our team in summer 2024, while Dominik Csontos arrived in January 2025. Our players also revealed what their first reaction was when the club approached them.
“When Honvéd contacted me I was very happy, because this is one of Hungary’s biggest clubs. There was no question what my decision would be. I wanted to sign here, play football here and achieve success. Many great footballers have played here; the club has a tremendous history – our forward recalled. Dominik Csontos had similar thoughts; in his view it is an honour to wear the shirt of a club with such a great history.
“When Kispest contacted me as well, I was very happy. I think we also have to pass this on to the youngsters: it is an honour to wear the shirt of a club with such a great history."
