Season summary:
Szentlőrinc returned to the second division after a one-year absence as champions of the NB III South-West Group, following a successful promotion play-off against Putnok. Róbert Waltner took charge in the summer and his team recorded four wins and two draws in the first six rounds. The spring has gone even better for Szentlőrinc so far, as they remain unbeaten in nine league matches. Most recently they won 3–1 in Szeged.
Players with links to both clubs:
Several former Honvéd players currently play for Szentlőrinc. Kristóf Tóth-Gábor made six NB I appearances in Kispest colours in the 2020–21 season, while Lukács Bőle spent two seasons at our club, scoring five goals in 33 top-flight matches. In addition, Ákos Tarcson moved from the Magyar Futball Akadémia to Szentlőrinc in the summer. Interestingly, our midfielder Barna Kesztyűs’s brother, Máté Kesztyűs, is a Szentlőrinc player.
History of meetings:
Until 2022, only our reserve team had faced the Baranya side in NB III matches, but three years ago our first team also played Szentlőrinc in a friendly.
Three penalty goals were scored in that match. Szentlőrinc led 2–0 through spot kicks from Rétyi and Bányai, then Milán Májer pulled one back in the 84th minute before Bence Banó-Szabó made it 2–2 three minutes later.
We first met the Baranya side in a competitive match last October, when Szentlőrinc won 1–0 through a Bence Keresztes goal.
Both matches were played in Kispest, so this will be our first visit to Szentlőrinc.
Our two previous matches against Szentlőrinc:
2024/25: Honvéd–Szentlőrinc 0–1
2021/22: Honvéd–Szentlőrinc 2–2 (our scorers: Májer, Banó-Szabó)
Sebestyén Ihrig-Farkas from our squad already scored in Szentlőrinc ten years ago, when he found the net for Honvéd II away from home.
Zsombor Bévárdi hopes our team can take revenge in Szentlőrinc:
Referee:
Sunday’s match will be refereed by Gergely Bana, who has officiated one Honvéd match so far. Four and a half years ago he took charge of our Hungarian Cup game against Csácsbozsok-Nemesapáti, which we won 2–0. Among the scorers was current Szentlőrinc top scorer Kristóf Tóth-Gábor, while Alex Szabó and Barna Kesztyűs both started; for the former, it was his first competitive match in Kispest.
