After Thursday's cup success in Debrecen, which ended in dramatic fashion, our team were already back in Merkantil Bank Liga action at Soroksár on Sunday. Tamás Feczkó made major changes to his starting line-up. In place of the suspended Szilveszter Hangya and István Pekár, Bence Varga and Ákos Sigér – who had also featured in the midweek match – came into the side. Zoltán Medgyes replaced Ádám Gyurcsó, while Bonifác Csonka took the place of Alex Szabó. The hosts were 10th in the table before the round and had also advanced in the MOL Hungarian Cup by defeating III. Kerület. At the same time, they had produced some surprising league results: despite defeats to Kozármisleny and BVSC-Zugló, they won 3–0 in Szeged and beat Videoton 3–1 at home.
After just 24 seconds Bence Varga crossed, the ball fell to Ujváry following a scramble, and Radnóti appeared to pull our young player's leg away, but Takács's whistle stayed silent. In the 13th minute Zuigeber released Szamosi down the right, but none of our attackers arrived in the goalmouth for his softly played cross, so the ball rolled all the way along in front of the goal line. In the 24th minute Zuigeber tried his luck from 16 metres, but his shot flew over. In the 32nd minute the hosts registered their first serious chance: after Köböl's free kick, Lovrencsics headed over Tujvel's goal. The half could hardly have ended worse: our young player Ádám Szamosi landed badly following a foul and had to leave the pitch on a stretcher.
After the shock we had to regroup at half-time, and visibly did so well. In the 49th minute Zuigeber got away down the right and crossed to Medgyes, but Soroksár's defenders blocked the shot in time. Kántor reacted quickest to the rebound and his effort struck the left post. In the 56th minute our right flank threatened again: Ujváry battled for the ball, after which Medgyes shot from a tight angle, but Radnóti was well positioned. In the 75th minute Csontos's cross caused panic in the home defence, but we could not land the final ‘blow’: the yellow-and-black defenders repeatedly cleared, even though the ball was ‘dancing’ on the goal line. For the final quarter-hour Tamás Feczkó made an unexpected move and sent on Botond Schön, who at 17 made his first senior-team appearance.
A minute later Csonka crossed and Medgyes fired over with an acrobatic effort. In the 85th minute we created perhaps the biggest chance of the match: Kállai found Gyurcsó on the edge of the penalty area, facing goal, and with his left foot he struck the left post full on. From the rebound Pauljevic shot on the run, but our defender also blasted over the bar. Our team increased the pressure in stoppage time, corner followed corner, and it paid off. In the 93rd minute Schön won a corner, which Gyurcsó took. Our experienced forward's delivery dropped over everyone to Csontos lurking at the far post, who ruthlessly smashed the ball with tremendous power into the right corner (0–1). Thanks to our victory we jumped to the top of the table; on Monday Vasas host Videoton. Next Sunday, in Round 13 of the Merkantil Bank Liga, we welcome Szeged to Bozsik Arena.
