Following the home match against Mezőkövesd, another so-called ‘six-pointer’ important for the final standings awaited our team as we hosted Szeged-Csanád Grosics Akadémia at Bozsik Arena in Round 13 of the Merkantil Bank Liga.
Tamás Feczkó was without Ádám Szamosi, who suffered a shoulder injury against Soroksár. At the same time, Szilveszter Hangya and István Pekár both returned from suspension, the former starting and the latter taking a place on the bench. Compared with the previous league match, our head coach made four changes in total, also putting his faith in Alex Szabó, Ádám Gyurcsó and Ádám Somogyi alongside the aforementioned Hangya.
In the fifth minute Gyurcsó crossed and Zuigeber – who had headed in twice in the previous home match – rose superbly again, but Veszelinov produced a fine save. Two minutes later everyone missed Pejovic's cross, but Borvető, arriving in the middle, shot over from close range. In the 17th minute Zuigeber fired from a promising angle after a scramble, but Veszelinov's goal remained untouched. In the 22nd minute the visitors launched another dangerous counterattack, at the end of which Suljic aimed at our goal, but Baki made a self-sacrificing block. In the 26th minute Ujváry played Kántor through on the offside line, but our forward's finish was inaccurate. Two minutes later Gyurcsó found himself in a good position at the other end, but our experienced player's shot went wide of the left post. In the 37th minute Borvető again received an excellent ball from Miskolczi but once more shot wide. In the 41st minute Márkvárt found himself through on goal but blasted the ball into Sector D from 11 metres. The half ended with Borvető's first-time effort, which Tujvel comfortably gathered low to the right. Although the second half began with another Zuigeber attempt, the first shot that looked more dangerous came from Márkvárt in the 57th minute, but Tujvel did not need to intervene. Neither side was able to create a serious chance in the second half, so the teams shared the points.
We have two league matches remaining this year – both after the international break. First we visit Vasas in Angyalföld, then host BVSC-Zugló at Bozsik Arena.
MERKANTIL BANK LIGA 2025/26, ROUND 13
BUDAPEST HONVÉD FC–Szeged Csanád Grosics Akadémia 0–0 (0–0)
Bozsik Arena, 3,980 spectators. Referee: Imre Kovács (Norbert Bornemissza, Gergely Becséri).
HONVÉD: Tujvel – Szabó A., Baki, Csontos – Ujváry (Schön, 83.), Sigér (Pauljevic, 83.), Somogyi, Hangya – Zuigeber (Pinte, 68.), Kántor (Hetyei, 89.), Gyurcsó (Medgyes, 68.). Head coach: Feczkó Tamás
Szeged: Veszelinov – Sándor, Szilágyi, Tóth B., Pejovic, Kalmár (Kurdics, 76.) – Rabatin, Miskolczi (Kun, 88.), Márkvárt (Vágó, 59.) – Suljic (Holman, 59.), Borvető. Head coach: Aczél Zoltán
Tamás Feczkó:
We started the match well. There were many transitions in our play in the first half, but quality possession was missing. Despite that we created four big clear-cut chances, while the visitors had two as well. To be able to dominate in the second half too, we changed our shape, but it did not work, and we have to admit the draw was a fair result.
Zoltán Aczél:
I didn't understand the team in the first five to ten minutes because we knew Honvéd would put us under pressure from the start, yet we barely passed to one another… That confusion gave Honvéd chances to score, but we survived them. Then we recovered, created serious opportunities and could even have gone into the break ahead. After half-time we battled each other, and although we had more possession by then, we couldn't score. I feel a little disappointed, but despite that I am proud of my team and we continue to keep pace with the leading group.
