At the post-match press conference, our head coach Tamás Feczkó stressed that although his team took the lead in the first half, the visitors equalised shortly afterwards, which visibly affected our play.
“I am very happy that we were able to start the season with a win. We managed to beat a very well-prepared Vidi side. In the first half the equaliser came very quickly after our goal, which did not help our game. We were not really able to break them down in the first half either; they closed the spaces very well. At half-time we had to change the way we built our attacks, and that worked well because we managed to get in behind them many times, although we still could not create a truly clear-cut chance. The fact that all three goals came after set pieces says a lot about the match. Both teams fought hard and played at a good tempo, and there were a lot of transitions in the game” – our head coach began his assessment. The visitors’ attacking midfielder Zsolt Haraszti – who returned to Székesfehérvár on loan from Paks during the winter – came close to getting on the scoresheet, but the post denied him twice.
“It was also important that the Kispest goalpost was on our side for two moments of real class from Zsolt Haraszti. In the final 15 minutes, when our aim was already to protect the result, we also had to change our system so that we could collect second balls somewhat more effectively and continue to put pressure on the opposition defence. We are satisfied with the result because we beat a very good team, but we still need to improve our play.”
Thanks to the successful start, our team increased its lead at the top of the table to five points. After the round, Kecskeméti TE occupy second place and Vasas are third. Tamás Feczkó stressed that there are still 14 rounds to play, so the most important thing is for the team to win as many matches as possible.
“We focus on ourselves. Five points are five points, but that is not what matters because there are still 14 rounds remaining. It would be a big mistake if anyone allowed that to make them complacent. We are concentrating on winning as many matches as possible and focusing on the next round. We expect a very difficult match in Budafok; they caught us out last year, and we do not want that to happen again.”
