As is well known, we beat Mezőkövesd Zsóry 5–2 in Sunday’s headline match of round 11 of the Merkantil Bank Liga. Ákos Zuigeber scored twice for us – both with headers – Dominik Csontos converted a penalty, and in the second half two substitutes introduced by Tamás Feczkó, Zoltán Medgyes and Patrik Pinte, also found the net, the latter doing so for the first time this season.
"First of all, on behalf of everyone working at our club, I would like to express our sincere condolences to the people of Mezőkövesd following the passing of József Hagyacki. I personally know what he meant to football in Mezőkövesd, and I am sure he leaves an enormous void behind." – our head coach began the press conference by remembering József Hagyacki, managing director of the Mezőkövesd club, who passed away last week at the age of 79.
We played against the best team we have faced so far; their position in the table is fully deserved. We knew that Honvéd had beaten Mezőkövesd only once before, and that motivated us as well. This match was very important to us. We started very proactively, took the lead as early as the third minute and then, two minutes after the visitors equalised, managed to go in front again, which was very important for us. We wanted our attacking midfielders to be available between the lines; if the opposition managed to close them down, we wanted to create openings from the flanks and get in behind the defence. I liked the way we played in the second half: on several occasions we were able to break through their defensive structure. Our aim was to take the right amount of risk; we built from deeper because the opposition had prepared a good tactical plan and passed the ball well. Our counter-attacks were dangerous, we scored some fine goals and our finishing was good. Both sides still had chances, but when we needed him, Tomás (Tomás Tujvel – ed.) made two huge saves. It has been a difficult week for us, but mentally we reacted very well to the past week. There is still a lot of value in this team. I am very happy that so many people came out to the match and support us. As I said at the beginning, we can only be successful together." – Tamás Feczkó assessed the match.
