The Disciplinary Committee of the Hungarian Football Federation (MLSZ) ordered disciplinary proceedings against our club following the match against Videoton FC Fehérvár.

According to the decision of the DC (disciplinary council), our club breached points a) and b) of Section 37(1), as well as Sections 39(1) and 40(1) of the Disciplinary Regulations (DR).

For this reason, the DC ordered our sporting organisation to pay a fine and also ordered the closure of the “B2, B3, B4, B5, B6” sectors of the Bozsik Aréna for our next home NB II men’s senior eleven-a-side league match. Pursuant to points a) and b) of Section 10(5) of the DR, the DC suspends implementation of the sector closure for a period of six months.

Based on the reports of the federation match inspector and federation security inspector, the DC established that during the Budapest Honvéd FC–Videoton FC Fehérvár NB II men’s senior eleven-a-side match played on February 2, our club committed the disciplinary offence because its supporters used five black and three red pyrotechnic devices emitting smoke from the teams’ entrance until the sixth minute of the match.

Subsequently, in the 29th and 30th minutes of the match, they shouted shocking, obscene chants reading “alé, alé, f*ggot Fehérvár”, and in the 36th minute “c**ksucker”.

The disciplinary offence under Sections 39(1) and 40(1) was also committed by supporters engaging in racist conduct when, in the 32nd minute, they sang the phrase “Fehérvár Gypsy peasants, you will never be champions”. MLSZ also fined our club for these offences.

In connection with the racist manifestation, the DC wishes to emphasise that under both MLSZ and international federation practice, the principle of zero tolerance applies to racist and discriminatory conduct in any form, and very strict sanctioning principles are applied when such cases are judged. The fight against racism and discrimination is an extremely important priority for MLSZ; in this spirit it has launched numerous projects aimed at preventing the phenomenon and expects the same from its member organisations. Such conduct is contrary to the principles of MLSZ and the spirit of fair play and respect, and damages the image and reputation of football.

We draw our supporters’ attention to the fact that any further repetition of these offences within six months may result in more severe sanctions: sector closure, one or more matches being played without spectators, points deduction, a ban on hosting matches at a particular stadium, the match being declared lost, exclusion from the competition, or relegation to a lower division. Where appropriate, several of the above sanctions may be imposed together.

The battle in the league is intensifying and we are still in the Hungarian Cup as well. It is in our shared interest for as many of our supporters as possible to be able to cheer on our team from the stands at both home and away matches. We therefore ask everyone to refrain in future from racist and discriminatory expressions and chants, and from using prohibited pyrotechnic devices! Together we are stronger!
