We played our first match of the 2026 calendar year in front of spectators and in bitter cold against Soroksár SC, who sit 14th in NB II, at the Honvéd Academy. The visitors began their winter preparations with a new head coach after Péter Lipcsei, who had led the District XXIII side for eight and a half years, was replaced by Gábor Korolovszky from FTC’s youth setup. Alongside the familiar names, our squad included new signing Kevin Varga, the 14-cap Hungary international attacker who joined training the day after signing for the club.
We clearly dominated the first third of the match. As early as the sixth minute Ujváry delivered an excellent cross and Pinte fired, but his shot was blocked among the visiting defenders. In the 24th minute, somewhat against the run of play, Norbert Gálfi received a good pass and, after a series of dribbles, curled the ball beautifully past Pauljevic and Dúzs into the left side of the goal (0–1). In the 43rd minute Kántor reacted sharply and pounced on the ball, but our attacker could only be stopped illegally 17–18 metres from goal. Gyurcsó missed by centimetres as his free-kick clipped the crossbar on its way out. In the 45th minute Medgyes broke into the penalty area but blasted over from a tight angle.
At half-time both teams essentially changed their entire line-ups, and we benefited more from it. We converted our first major opportunity when Kevin Varga’s cross from the right was turned in by Földi (1–1). The former registered his first assist in his first match, while the latter scored his first goal for the first team. In the 81st minute, after a crossfield pass from Alex Szabó, Hangya raced forward on the left and very unselfishly set up Földi, who made no mistake from close range (2–1). Soroksár were unable to create any serious danger in front of our goal afterwards, so, just as in 2025, we began the year with a 2–1 victory. On January 18 we continue preparations against Kazakhstan side Shakhter Karagandy as part of our training camp in Turkey.
