As the first step in our preparations for the 2026–27 season, we hosted Kisvárda in front of supporters at the Bozsik Arena. Despite the extreme heat, a relatively large crowd came out for the match, which will be repeated just under a month later in different circumstances, as a league fixture in the opening round in Kisvárda. In Maurizio Jacobacci's first match, he sent the team out with a back four. New signing Deian Boldor was left out as a precaution, while Baki Ákos had already been forced into a longer absence last season; according to the latest medical reports his recovery is progressing well and he was able to do light training this week.
In the 9th minute Kántor released Gyurcsó with excellent timing, but from a somewhat tight angle he rushed the finish slightly and his shot went wide. Ten minutes later Szamosi lofted the ball up to Kántor, who produced an excellent flick-on towards Zuigeber. Our forward intelligently carried the ball towards goal before laying it off with pinpoint accuracy to the arriving Szamosi, who fired an unstoppable shot into the bottom-right corner (1–0). The drinks break then brought us no luck: in the 27th minute Jordanov lifted the ball into the middle and Novothny beat our defenders to head into the net (1–1). As expected, both coaches made changes at the break. New signing Pablo García made his debut for us and, although we changed the entire line-up, one Somogyi remained on the pitch, with Ádám replaced by his brother Tamás, who also got his chance to impress. We clearly controlled the second half and at times produced some very attractive combination play. Kállai was first to go close, but the visitors' best performer Papp Zsombor pushed away his long-range shot. In the 55th minute even he could no longer save the visitors: he still managed to parry Medgyes' effort, but Pinte was alert, quick and accurate, easily turning the rebound into the net (2–1) to restore our lead.
Our goal was barely threatened in the second half until the 73rd minute, when Dúzs produced a superb save from Szikszai's wide free-kick. A minute later, at the other end, Papp again kept his side in the match by saving a Medgyes shot. In the 81st minute we could have settled matters, but Papp made another big stop from Varga Bence and Somogyi was inaccurate from the rebound. Chances then came thick and fast in the closing stages; after successful one-on-one duels, Hetyei and Medgyes were among those presented with opportunities, but the final action repeatedly let us down. We therefore finished with a one-goal win over Kisvárda. On Friday we face Sturm Graz II and on Saturday Lendava, with both matches broadcast live on our official YouTube channel.
