Our summer signing Ádám Gyurcsó, a 20-time international, was already able to make his debut against Videoton FC Fehérvár. We asked our 34-year-old forward about the background to his decision, settling in and his family.
“I was welcomed very well and I feel good here at Honvéd; I feel I managed to settle in quickly. Even though there are a lot of young players in our squad, I can feel the respect, which I think is very important. I went through the same thing when I was young; I knew that the older players had to be respected. I like the fact that we have respectful young players in the squad” said Ádám, who also had an offer from his former club in Székesfehérvár.
“I still have goals in my career. When I make decisions, the professional side is the most important thing for me – that has also been the case throughout my career – which is why I wanted to sign here. I spent many years in Fehérvár, we won the league, I played in the Europa League and I earned my first international call-up from there. I did not want to make the decision based on emotion, but at the same time I wanted to join a project where I could see a positive outcome, even in the short term. Something started at Honvéd during the spring that I hope will continue. I think that process was reflected in the opening match as well. In Fehérvár the vision presented for the future was much more uncertain. I want to help the club with my experience and knowledge in its ambitions to return to NB I. By signing here, I have closed the Székesfehérvár chapter of my career; the only thing in front of my eyes is for Honvéd to be successful and return to the top flight as soon as possible. People often follow their heart, but I tried to separate myself emotionally” Ádám said, explaining the background to his decision.
“I wanted to choose a project I could identify with. I was happy to join because I think a lot of people are hungry for this club to be back in the top flight – we saw how many travelled with us away from home. I think we laid a good foundation for the season with the win against Vidi."
“I know I am no longer young, but I can still compete with the younger generation. Given that I joined an existing squad with an established tactical system, I knew I would not be on the pitch from the very beginning, but I was able to detach myself from that. I did have a slight question mark about how the supporters would receive me, but criticism comes with the territory. I think the match against Vidi gave the best answer that I made the right decision” he added.
Ádám also spoke, among other things, about his private life in our interview, which you can watch in full here:
