After a long campaign, yesterday it became certain that our team will start the 2026–27 season back in NB I after three years away. Following the goalless draw against Szeged-Csanád Grosics Akadémia, Szilveszter Hangya reflected on the match and the season so far.
"It was a difficult match, especially mentally. Everyone felt the pressure that we had to win today. Fortunately, this one point was enough for us to achieve what we wanted; before the season, promotion was the club's main objective. I think our supporters are also very happy that after three years Honvéd is back where it belongs. We have come through a very difficult season, and the spring campaign was a bit of a grind. For a long time the results kept coming and we were top of the table, but perhaps the team became a little mentally tired as well. Kecskemét kept winning their matches, which put more pressure on us, while we dropped a few points we had not expected to. Even so, I think this is a huge achievement for me and my teammates. Today is an enormous relief!" – our captain said after the match.
"I have played for the national team, won NB II, won the Hungarian Cup and played in the Europa League as well, but I would perhaps put this achievement at the top of my career. An incredibly family-like atmosphere has developed at the club among the team, the staff, the employees and the supporters. Before the match I told the lads that not everyone gets the chance to win promotion to the top flight with their friends" – added our 32-year-old defender, before turning to the two remaining matches and future goals.
"We want to win both of our last two matches, the home derby against Vasas and the away fixture against BVSC, and after that we want to deliver stable performances in the top flight. I am absolutely optimistic!" – he concluded.
On Sunday from 16:00 we play our final home match of the season. Our opponent will be Vasas FC, who have also already secured promotion, but the battle for the league title is still far from decided.
There is huge interest in the derby, and ticket sales have already started, with tickets selling well but still available. Let as many of us as possible get behind the team at the Bozsik Aréna!
