Birthdays

December 15:

— On this day, Zsolt Bárányos celebrates his 50th birthday. Among his successes with Kispest, the 1995–96 Hungarian Cup triumph stands out, and he played an active part in that achievement. Even at the age of fifty he is still fighting for Kispest success: he is currently a member of our old boys’ team and, after last year’s league title, is once again in contention for the championship this season.

December 16:

— On this day, Zoltán Kovács, the home-grown and promising defender of Kispest–HFC whose career was cut short by his tragic death, would have turned 39.

December 19:

— Ernő Lóth was born 101 years ago on this day. One of the finest moments of his career in the red-and-black shirt was the 1946–47 league silver medal – Kispest’s first major success after the war, in which he also played a part.

December 20:

— On this day János Mátyus celebrates his 51st birthday. He began his professional football career with Kispest-Honvéd. From 1993 he was a key player for the club for five years, excelling not only in defence but also scoring 11 league goals. His greatest success during his time in Kispest was winning the Hungarian Cup in the 1996/97 season. He made 34 appearances for the Hungarian national team and scored three goals.

December 21:

— On this day István Szijjártó turned 67. He achieved the greatest successes of his football career with Bp. Honvéd, becoming Hungarian champion in the 1988–89 season and winning the Hungarian Cup with Kispest in 1989.

Those who passed away

December 20:

— Sándor Lukács, the legendary defender and eternal champion of Bp. Honvéd, passed away nine years ago. He spent the most important years of his entire career at the Kispest club and wore Honvéd’s red-and-white shirt for fifteen years from 1968. He was a key member of the title-winning team in the 1979–80 season. He represented Hungary ten times between 1975 and 1977.

December 21:
