The spring season also began in the youth leagues last week, with our U19, U17 and U16 teams opening the Elite League with victories. Our U15 side suffered a 3–0 defeat against leaders Ferencváros.

U19

Márton Bogdánfi's side prepared well for the league, earning a confident four-goal win away to Fehérvár FC in Round 5 of the Hungarian Cup. In Round 12 of the league, our age-group side visited Újpest and won 2–0. With 28 points – two behind leaders MTK – our team are second in the table. In the next round we host DVSC at the academy.

Elite League, Round 12

UTE–Budapest Honvéd FC 0–2 (0–1)

Honvéd: Balogh, Horváth, Csörgő, Schön, Komlósi (Somogyi 58.), Gáspár (Szelényi 58.), Kovács (Tasi 72.) Meskó, Kecskés, Russnák, Joó (Kovács 90.)

Goals: Gáspár (2.), Meskó (55.)

Márton Bogdánfi, head coach:

“We took an early lead in the first half, then tried to keep as much possession as possible, but there was little continuous play. The match lacked rhythm and tempo, which made it difficult to play our own game. Our opponents broke up the play, which led to many set pieces for us, and those became our main source of danger. We were stable at the back, the second goal came at an important psychological moment, and after that we controlled the match completely and deservedly won.”

U17

Our U17 team began the spring season away to Budai FC and brought home all three points thanks to Patrik För's goal. The top of the table is tight: Ferencváros lead with 28 points, MTK are second with 26 and our side sit third with 25.

Elite League, Round 12

Budai FC–Budapest Honvéd FC 0–1 (0–1)

Honvéd: Székely, Ferencz, Schwarcz, Varga-Sós, Szanka, Szőke (Domján 63.), För (Érsek 63.), Martin (Molnár 72.), Kovács (Varga 63.), Bokor, Balaskó (Baki 84.)

Goal: För (18.)

Viktor Petrók, head coach:

“We did not start the match particularly well; it took us around fifteen minutes to get into it. From then on we were able to control the game, although in some phases we made too many mistakes. In the final third of the match our play completely fell apart and the opposition took control by taking advantage of that. Apart from a short period, overall we played with the wrong mentality, too passively and without enough concentration. We cannot be satisfied with the performance we showed.”

U16

István Körtvélyesi's team hosted Újpest and beat the purple-and-whites 3–1 thanks to a goal from Martin Vérten and a brace from Kornél Solymos. The U16 standings are also extremely tight: we lead with 27 points, while second-placed MTK and third-placed Győr both have 26.

Elite League, Round 12

Budapest Honvéd FC–UTE 3–1 (1–1)

Honvéd: Czinki, Marinyák, Érsek (Völgyi 59.), Horváth-Garaba, Solymos, Hegyes, Vérten (Kardos 69.), Jakab (Rotár 59.), Barton, Domány, Meggyes (Remenár 76.)

Goals:
Vérten (43.), Solymos (48.), (56.)

István Körtvélyesi, head coach:

“We played a very good match against Újpest; this game was genuinely about football. Both teams tried to play, and the quality and dynamism were at the right level. The players carried out what we asked for and practised. Congratulations to the team!”

U15

In the U15 competition, our team suffered a three-goal defeat against leaders Ferencváros. With 14 points, we are eighth in the league. MTK are second, five points behind the green-and-whites, while Győr are third with 20 points.

Elite League, Round 12

Budapest Honvéd FC–Ferencvárosi TC 0–3 (0–1)

Honvéd: Petró, Nyiri, Palásti, Pisont, Schill (Bolyki 61.), Józsa, Menyhárt (Török 55.), Vass (Balázs 50.), Varga, Szijjártó, Gerebenes (Magyar 41.)

Tamás Szamosi, head coach:

“For the first 30 minutes of the match, nobody would have thought we would fail to win today. Unfortunately, at 0–0 we could not even pass the ball into an empty net, and we also had a goal disallowed by the referee for offside. Our opponents scored three goals from three shots on target, while we could not convert even our biggest chances. We played well in open play and every one of our players showed outstanding desire, but unfortunately today that was only enough for this result.”

Our U14 team were due to play Kisvárda last Saturday in Round 15 of the league, but the match was postponed at the opponent's request. The fixture will now take place on March 13 at 14:00 at the Kisvárdai Várkerti Stadium.
