We also began our Hungarian Cup campaign, travelling to Mór for the third round. As expected, Tamás Feczkó made major changes to his starting line-up, changing nine positions compared with our previous competitive match. Only Ákos Baki and Dominik Csontos remained in the starting eleven, while players such as Ádám Gyurcsó, returning from injury, and summer signing Bence Varga, making his first competitive appearance for Honvéd, were also given opportunities.
In the 2nd minute, Gyurcsó's free kick created a chance for Baki, but the hosts eventually cleared for a corner. After the corner, Mór launched an excellent counterattack: Lehota beat his defender and then supplied a superb pass to the arriving Balázs Varga, who ruthlessly fired the ball under the crossbar (1–0).
The goal visibly unsettled our team somewhat, but we were able to increase the pressure as the first half progressed. In the 6th minute, Ákos Szabó's cross caused some difficulty for Mór, but Rigó pushed the ball away. A minute later Varga could have equalised, but his shot went over the bar. After a quarter of an hour, the scorer of the opening goal, Varga, threatened again and Dúzs had to stretch to save the attacker's low effort heading towards the bottom-left corner. After 23 minutes Gyurcsó found himself facing goal, but after controlling the ball he could only poke at it and Rigó made a fine save. Barely a minute later Gyurcsó was involved again, laying the ball back well for Bence Varga, and our defender missed by only a small margin.
In the 28th minute we won a free kick: Csontos delivered the ball perfectly onto Baki's head, and he arrived with perfect timing to nod it into the right corner (1–1). In the 37th minute Pinte tried his luck, but the Mór defenders cleared his shot in time.
Tamás Feczkó made two changes at half-time, sending on Zoltán Medgyes and Kevin Kállai, and we managed to take the lead early in the second half when, after a scramble, Kántor held onto the ball inside the penalty area and passed to Sigér, who fired into the right corner (1–2).
In the 56th minute Kántor took the ball around Rigó, but from a tight angle he could no longer find the target.
Eight minutes later Szamosi was released down the left and passed to Kántor, whose spectacular backheel with his back to goal doubled our advantage (1–3). In the closing stages Medgyes could also have scored, but Rigó was again well positioned. A few moments later Medgyes sent Sigér through, then the ball travelled via Szamosi to Kovács, and our 17-year-old forward made no mistake from close range (1–4).
Our team next takes the field on Wednesday at 19:00 away to Kecskeméti TE in the abandoned match from round six of the Merkantil Bank Liga. The sides will resume from the 28th minute of the game that was halted at the end of August because of heavy rain and an unplayable pitch.
The draw for the fourth round of the Hungarian Cup will be broadcast live by M4 Sport after the final match on Sunday.
