Our NB III team will not play a league match this week because of the MOL Hungarian Cup. The side was not left without a game, however, as Honvéd II played a friendly against DVTK II, who compete in the NB III North-East Group. The match was hosted by the Honvéd-MFA Youth Centre. As we reported earlier, the team’s previous coach Zsolt Laczkó became head coach of Bp. Honvéd’s first team, with former assistant coach Gábor Kovács taking his place. This was therefore the specialist’s first match in charge as head coach.
Despite the intense heat, we played a good-tempo match against Diósgyőr. The only goal of the game came in the first half through Szilveszter Hetyei. Our striker latched onto a flick-on following a goal-kick, found himself one-on-one and fired into the bottom-right corner from 15 metres. After the break we created several chances in front of the visitors’ goal but could not add another. Based on the balance of play, Kispest deserved the victory.
Gábor Kovács: — I am very happy that we were able to play today. It was a useful training match because we could give minutes to players returning from injury. We will need them badly in the league next Wednesday. We played against a good opponent who also did things that we do not encounter very often in the league, so the players were able to gain useful experience. And not least, we won 1–0, which should give us confidence for the league.
