On Tuesday we continue our training camp in Turkey against Czech top-flight side Slovacko.

The blue-and-whites currently sit bottom of the Czech top flight, but have collected the same number of points as Dukla Praha two places above them. Their record stands at 3 wins, 5 draws and 11 defeats. Despite their position, the team cannot be written off, as in the league they drew 1–1 away to Europa League league-phase side Viktoria Plzeň, and then beat them 3–0 at home, while they also took a point from Sparta Praha and lost only 1–0 to Champions League league-phase side Slavia Praha. The team has no clear leading scorer this season; in the league, for example, none of their players has reached even two goals.

Slovacko have already played two matches in Turkey. They first lost 2–1 to MFK Malica, then defeated Serbian side Čukarički 1–0.

The team has been coached since November by Czech Roman Skuhravy, who has so far been on the bench for only four league matches, but Slovacko have already celebrated two victories under him.

The club from Uherské Hradiště have reached two cup finals in their history and have also finished top of the Czech second division twice.

Patrik Pinte is the member of our squad with playing experience in the Czech Republic. Our 29-year-old winger belonged to Mladá Boleslav in the 2018–19 season but made only one appearance for the reserve team. At international level, Ádám Gyurcsó may have the fondest memories of the Czechs, because in 2012 he scored his first Hungary goal against them in Prague, and it proved to be the winner in a 2–1 victory.

Previous meetings with Czech opposition:

We last faced a Czech team in 2021, when Příbram won a high-scoring match 5–3. Our last four games against Czech sides were all friendlies. Our most recent competitive tie was in the 2008–09 Intertoto Cup, when we eliminated Teplice on away goals after a 3–3 aggregate draw. Two years later we won a friendly tournament in Prague, collecting four points against Žižkov and Bohemians and finishing without conceding a goal. We also achieved notable success in European competition against teams from the territory of today’s Czech Republic. In the 1964–65 Cup Winners’ Cup we eliminated Dukla Praha before facing Liverpool in the quarter-finals, while in the 1975–76 season we knocked Bohemians out of the UEFA Cup. Tuesday will be the 46th occasion on which Honvéd have faced a Czech side, and the 28th such friendly. Another interesting fact is that our club’s first international match, in 1912, was against a Czech team, when we beat Brno (then known as DFC Brünn) 2–1.

Our last five matches against Czech opposition:

2021/22: Příbram–Honvéd 5–3 (Our scorers: Eppel 2×, Bőle)

2020/21: Honvéd–Baník Ostrava 1–2 (Our scorer: Gazdag)

2009/10: Bohemiens Praha–Honvéd 0–0

2009/10: Žižkov–Honvéd 0–1 (Our scorer: Moreira)

2008/09: Honvéd–Teplice 0–2

Looking at the 2025–26 season, Tuesday brings a round number: since the start of summer preparations, Feczkó’s side have played 15 league matches, 2 Hungarian Cup games and 12 friendlies, meaning the match against Slovacko will be Honvéd’s thirtieth game of the season. The combined record from the previous 29 matches is 19 wins, 2 draws and 8 defeats.

The match starts at 13:00 on Tuesday, January 18, and will be broadcast live on our YouTube channel.
