Our squad has been strengthened by an international defender, with Hangya Szilveszter joining Budapest Honvéd FC as a free agent!
The 30-year-old left-back has made 10 appearances for the national team and spent the past six years with Fehérvár FC. In the red-and-blue colours he won the Hungarian Cup (beating Honvéd in the final), and also finished second and third in the OTP Bank Liga.
“Honvéd is a prestigious club. When the team came into the picture, I did not have to think for long. The conditions are perfect and I have come to the most suitable place to regain my old form – began Hangya Szilveszter, who underwent knee surgery in November 2023 and was able to return at the end of the spring season. – I was already in the squad for the final five league matches of last season and I have been completely healthy since April. It has been a long road, and recently I have focused only on trying to keep myself at the right level. I also trained with III. Kerület and would like to thank them for taking me in and supporting me. On top of that, I trained a lot on my own so that I could be in the right condition. I can hardly wait to get back on the pitch! I spent six years in Fehérvár and I had already felt that I needed a new impulse. I think Kispest is the right place for that, and I will do everything for Honvéd's success.“
Hangya Szilveszter's career began in Baja, after which he developed at MTK and became a senior player in the blue-and-white colours. He also played in Dunaújváros and for Vasas, while between 2018 and 2024 he was a Fehérvár player. He made his national-team debut in a friendly against Sweden in 2016 under Bernd Storck, while Marco Rossi used him in six matches.
“I still have to get to know the young players, but I know quite a few of the more experienced members of the squad from before, either from the national team or as opponents. Laczkó Zsolt was my team-mate at Vasas, I know Holman Dávid and Vernes Richárd, Branko Pauljevic and I battled each other a lot, and I also met Ene Kornél on the pitch – said Hangya Szilveszter. – As for my individual objectives, I want to spend as much time as possible on the pitch! I missed last season, while before the 2021 European Championship I broke my ankle, so the most important thing now is to stay healthy, play a lot and help Honvéd with my performances. At team level the most important thing is to be a solid and stable side, and we want to finish as high as possible!"
