Only two places remained open in NB II, which kicks off on 27 July, after Gyirmót and Tatabánya were relegated, most recent champions Kisvárda and Kazincbarcika were promoted, and Fehérvár FC and Kecskeméti TE dropped down from NB I.
The NB III promotion play-offs were contested by FC Nagykanizsa and Karcagi SE, and by Credobus Mosonmagyaróvár and Tiszakécskei LC. After the first legs it appeared that only Karcag would offer real drama, as the Bács-Kiskun County side won 3–0 in Mosonmagyaróvár while Kanizsa surrendered a 2–0 lead at home. The Győr-Moson-Sopron County side then reduced their three-goal deficit by two by the 55th minute of the return leg, but could go no further.
There were no goals in Karcag until the 84th minute, when home player Levente Szakács put his side ahead. In the final minute of added time, however, Milán Ekker equalised to send the tie to extra time. Szakács restored Karcag’s lead in the 105th minute, but Nagykanizsa again levelled the match a few minutes before the end. The hosts were sharper in the penalty shoot-out, so Karcag joined Tiszakécske in the field for the 2025/26 NB II season.
