Season summary:
Békéscsaba returned to the second tier this season after a one-year absence, having won the NB III South-East Group last year. The purple-and-whites have been inconsistent. Their best spell came at the end of the autumn and the beginning of the spring campaign, when they went unbeaten in five matches and recorded four wins, including away victories at Budafok and Ajka, while at home they beat Tatabánya and Soroksár, scoring four against the latter. They then entered another difficult spell, which the team from the Viharsarok region ended on Sunday with a 3–1 derby win over Szeged.
Players with links to both clubs:
From the current Békéscsaba squad, Lóránt Fazekas and Roland Vólent previously played in Kispest, while Balázs Rácz is spending the spring on loan with the purple-and-whites. From our current squad, Sebestyén Ihrig-Farkas spent half a year in Békéscsaba.
Previous meetings:
We have met Békéscsaba most often in NB I, 56 times in total. Kispest won 29 of those matches, Békéscsaba won 12, and the remaining 15 ended in draws.
The last time we hosted the purple-and-whites in a league match was in 2016, when we won 2–1.
The two teams met in the cup final in 1988. Sándor Csató, now Békéscsaba’s head coach, scored the decisive goal as Békéscsaba won 3–2.
We last met Békéscsaba in October 2024, when Norbert Pintér cancelled out Benedek Simon’s goal at the Kórház utcai Stadium. It remains the only NB II meeting between the teams.
