As in the past two years, we have again been drawn against a top-flight team in the fourth round of the MOL Hungarian Cup. After our home matches against Paks, this time our team faces an away test at DVSC, currently third in the Fizz Liga. Both sides warmed up for the headline tie of the round with 5–2 wins: we beat Mezőkövesd by that score, while DVSC defeated Újpest 5–2.
NB I and NB II teams entered the MOL Hungarian Cup in the third round. DVSC won 2–0 away to third-tier Veszprém, while we advanced in mid-September with a 4–1 victory at Mór, who compete in the Fejér County first division.

Vyacheslav Kulbachuk joined our academy in the spring of 2022 and made his first-team debut in 2024, going on to appear in 12 NB II league matches. Dominik Kocsis and Tamás Szűcs are also Honvéd academy products. Head-to-head meetings:
DVSC–Honvéd is a fixture with a major tradition not only in Hungarian football but particularly in the history of the Hungarian Cup. The two clubs have played no fewer than four (!) cup-final matches against one another, although these were two-legged ties, meaning we met Debrecen in the final in two separate seasons. On aggregate, the side from Hajdúság came out on top both times in the late 2000s. Thursday’s match will be the 12th Hungarian Cup meeting between the teams. Most recently, in the 2017–18 season, a 0–0 draw in Kispest was followed by a 3–1 home win for Debrecen in the city of Cívis.
The teams have already faced each other more than 100 times in NB I. Our longest unbeaten run in the fixture came between 1962 and 1983, when Debrecen went 13 matches without beating us. Lajos Tichy is the leading scorer in the history of the matchup: the Honvéd forward found the red-and-whites’ net 11 times.
We have played 51 matches in Debrecen so far, with a record of 15 wins, 13 draws and 23 defeats. At the new Nagyerdei Stadion, we have won 4 of 13 competitive matches, alongside 3 draws and 6 defeats. The last time we left the Nagyerdő with a win was in 2017, when Marco Rossi’s team won 5–2 and went on to celebrate the league title at the end of the season.
DVSC – Budapest Honvéd | 2-5 | OTP Bank Liga | Round 32 | MLSZTV
Since then, we have gone seven competitive matches without a win away to DVSC.
Between 2021 and 2023 we played six league matches against DVSC. Although the latest meeting ended 0–0, the previous five fixtures produced a remarkable 31 goals.
Our last five matches against DVSC:
2022/23: Debrecen–Honvéd 0–0
2022/23: Honvéd–Debrecen 2–3 (Our scorers: Domingues, Lukic)
2022/23: Debrecen–Honvéd 4–3 (Our scorers: Domingues, Samperio, Jonsson)
2021/22: Honvéd–Debrecen 4–2 (Our scorers: D. Nagy, Batik, Petkovic, Traore)
2021/22: Debrecen–Honvéd 5–3 (Our scorers: Lukic, Bőle 2x)
Referee:
Tamás Bognár will referee Thursday’s cup tie. Among other matches, he also took charge of the 2020 Honvéd–Mezőkövesd cup final, and most recently officiated our league match in Angyalföld in May. He has refereed this fixture four times so far: Debrecen won three of those matches and we won one.
