Summary of the current season:
Almost the entire squad changed at Mezőkövesd following relegation from NB I, with our former player Mihály Tóth taking charge of the Matyóföld side. The team made a poor start, however, and in September Tóth was replaced by our former player and head coach, Aurél Csertői. After a good run, Mezőkövesd became stuck in mid-table and then finished the autumn with five winless matches. They began the spring by beating BVSC, then, after draws against Gyirmót and Szentlőrinc, they also defeated Békéscsaba. Their first defeat of the spring came in the previous round, when they lost 1-0 in Szeged.
Squad:
György Bora and Attila Lőrinczy have previously played for Honvéd from the current Mezőkövesd squad, while their coach Aurél Csertői also represented Kispest both as a player and as head coach.
Several members of our squad have previously spent time at Mezőkövesd: Tomás Tujvel, Ákos Baki, Branko Pauljevic and Zoltán Medgyes all played for the Matyóföld club, while Dominik Csontos was also registered with Kövesd but did not feature in a competitive match.
Head-to-head history:
The sides first met in a league match in the 2013-14 season, and on both occasions the yellow-and-blues came out on top, winning 2-0 in Kispest and 1-0 at home. Over the following year and a half the teams met in friendly matches. Mezőkövesd won 2-1 in the summer of 2014, with Youla scoring our goal, before we won 1-0 in February 2015 through a Holender strike. In the summer period of the 2016-17 season we were the visitors in Mezőkövesd and won 2-1 thanks to Gergely Bobál's last-minute header.
Since then, we have only faced Mezőkövesd in competitive matches. In the 2016-17 season we lost 3-1 away, but then got our revenge as Márton Eppel's goal kept all three points at home, before we thrashed our opponents 5-1 in the third meeting of a season that ended with us winning the league title. Lanzafame scored twice in that emphatic victory, while Baráth, Kamber, Eppel and Dávid Bobál each contributed one goal.

We won in Mezőkövesd again the following season, with Kabangu scoring the winning goal in the 90+2nd minute. Every fixture between the sides that season ended in a 2-1 away win.

In the 2018-19 season, a Holender goal earned us all three points in Mezőkövesd again, our fourth consecutive win there. The home match ended in a 1-1 draw, while Mezőkövesd won the third meeting 3-1.
The 2019-20 season was one of the most memorable in several respects when it came to fixtures between the two teams.
For the first time, we faced Mezőkövesd in four competitive matches in a single season. We won the league match in Matyóföld 2-1, before Kövesd returned the favour by the same scoreline in the capital. In June came the first cup meeting between the two clubs, straight away in the final. We took the lead through a Nesterov own goal, László Pekár equalised from a free-kick before half-time, and Djordje Kamber scored our winner, with which we lifted the Hungarian Cup trophy for the 8th time.

A few days later we beat Mezőkövesd 2-1 again in the league, meaning all four matches that season ended 2-1, three of them in our favour.
In the 2020-21 season we were unable to get the better of our Borsod opponents. Our two home matches ended first in a 1-1 and then a 2-2 draw, while the hosts won 2-1 in Mezőkövesd.
In the autumn of 2021 we were already hosting our visitors at the Bozsik Arena, where an eventful match ended in a 3-2 away win. The remaining two matches of the season against Kövesd produced no goals.
In 2022 we hosted the Matyóföld side in a milestone match, as it was Honvéd's 3,000th top-flight league fixture.

The match, once again full of twists, ended in a 2-2 draw. The return fixture in Mezőkövesd finished 0-0, while Mezőkövesd won the third match 3-2.
Our most recent match against Kövesd was on September 1, 2024, when we won 2-1 through goals from Benedek Simon and Zoltán Medgyes.
