We hosted MTK Budapest at the Bozsik Arena in our first home match of the 2026/27 season, marking the clubs' 200th meeting in the top division. Although the sides went into the break with the score at 2–1, and we came within a whisker of keeping all three points at home after the interval, Máté Pinezits's team equalised in the 96th minute.
“Overall, I have to say that this was a match in which Honvéd proved they can compete fully in the top division. We absolutely matched MTK and even took a two-goal lead in the first half, which could have settled the match. Unfortunately it didn't work out that way because we conceded at the end of the first half and went into the break 2–1 ahead. We began the second half with another fine attacking move and scored, but the goal was ruled out for offside. Then there was a longer spell in which attacking and defensive phases alternated, and we conceded a second goal, again from the right side. We will learn a lot from that, and it is certainly an area in which we must improve in the future." – our head coach began his assessment, before continuing:
“Nevertheless, we picked ourselves up, got going again and took the lead once more through the penalty. After that, however, we made the mistake of dropping too deep and inviting our opponents onto us. We then committed a foul that gave them a free-kick. I feel sorry for the lads about the result, because they thoroughly deserved to win.”
