After draws against Kisvárda and MTK, our team visited last season's bronze medallists Paksi FC on Sunday. Following a goalless first half, the hosts took the lead through Milán Pető, but our 16-year-old Tamás Somogyi equalised with a volley. Although József Szalai scored Paks's second goal in the 79th minute, Dominik Csontos converted our late penalty and we left the town known for its nuclear power plant with one point.
“We faced opponents who can cause you problems if you let them play. We came here to win this match. I believe we deserved to be ahead in the first half. The team put in a huge physical effort before the break, and that was part of the reason why Paks created so many chances and hit the woodwork twice in the second half. Then we scored a goal that was ruled out for offside, perhaps somewhat controversially. Two minutes later we conceded, and that was hard for the team to take. That was when the team's character really came to the fore: Tamás Somogyi scored a wonderful goal to bring us level. We didn't stop there, because we'd come for all three points, but Paks went ahead again. We made three substitutions and that gave the team fresh energy. We deserved at least those two goals and the draw. We gave a brave account of ourselves.”
Our 63-year-old head coach also discussed the performance of our young midfielder, who at 16 years and 355 days old has entered the ranks of the youngest goalscorers in NB I history.
“I play Tamás because he deserves to be on the pitch. He had an excellent pre-season and then settled into the team extremely effectively. He thoroughly deserved his chance to play. He had an outstanding match, not only because of his goal but because of the way he fought throughout and created chances for his teammates with very intelligent passes,” —Maurizio Jacobacci summed up.
We continue with a Budapest derby on Friday, hosting Vasas at the Bozsik Arena in Matchday 4 of the OTP Bank Liga. Our head coach believes the team deserves a win based on its performances so far and hopes we can keep all three points at home on Friday.
“The team needs a little luck. Against MTK we conceded the equaliser in the very last moment. This team deserves a win by now, and I really hope we can beat Vasas. We fight for victory in every match.”
