With three rounds remaining, we took to the pitch in Szeged with promotion at stake. The equation was simple: if our team collected at least as many points in the round as Kecskemét, who were seven points behind us, we would establish a mathematically unassailable lead and, regardless of later results, be certain to start next season in the top flight. Around 600 Kispest supporters travelled to the Szent Gellért Fórum and effectively turned it into a home ground, backing the team almost without pause for the full 90 minutes.
Compared with the previous league match, the draw against Soroksár, Tamás Feczkó made few changes to his starting eleven, bringing in Bonifác Csonka and Ákos Zuigeber for Branko Pauljevic and Patrik Pinte.
The first half passed without major incident, with only one real chance to note: in the 10th minute Borvető headed Kalmár's cross toward goal, but Tujvel reacted superbly to get down to it. After the break our head coach made two substitutions, and they seemed to give the team a lift. In the 52nd minute Nyers met Ujváry's cross and immediately put the ball toward goal, but Rjaskó denied him with a self-sacrificing, perfectly timed sliding challenge. In the 56th minute, just as in Mezőkövesd, Alex Szabó drove forward brilliantly with the ball, played a one-two with Nyers, but in a big chance rolled his effort just wide of the left post. In the 68th minute, after a Csontos corner, our defender was able to shoot again, but the ball flew over the goal. Szeged's only major opportunity came in stoppage time, when Csontos had to clear off the goal line. The match ended goalless, while Kecskemét lost at Kozármisleny, meaning that after the 2022/23 season and three years away, our team will once again compete in NB I from next season.
