Our team began this season's Merkantil Bank Liga campaign with three consecutive victories and, as the only side with a perfect record, sits top of the table. On Sunday another away match awaits us, this time at FC Ajka.
Supporter information:
- The match kicks off at 19:00 on Sunday, 17 August, at the Ajkai Városi Sportcentrum
- Gates open: 18:00
- Ajka allocated 250 away tickets to our club, which unsurprisingly sold out quickly, so our travelling supporters will back the team at the venue in the largest possible numbers.
- We will broadcast the match live on our YouTube channel.
Information from FC Ajka:
"We inform visiting supporters that all 250 tickets for Sunday's FC Ajka–Budapest Honvéd FC match, kicking off at 19:00, have been sold in advance, therefore the away ticket office will not open on the day of the match.
We ask visiting supporters not to travel without a ticket. Before entry to the home sectors, security staff will carry out stricter checks, so we ask everyone to arrive at the match in good time. Supporters wearing Budapest Honvéd FC shirts, scarves or colours will not be admitted to the home sectors even with a valid ticket."

Sunday's opponents started the league season with a revamped squad, but immediately opened the campaign with a 4–0 defeat against BVSC. After the poor start, they drew 1–1 at home with Videoton, then claimed their first league win at Budafok. András Horváth joined Bálint Gaál on the bench, so the pair now jointly lead the Bakony side, whose squad changed significantly over the summer. Among the arrivals, our former players are worth mentioning: Dominik Cipf joined from Kozármisleny and Kristóf Herjeczki from Kazincbarcika, while they also signed Krisztián Kirchner, who scored a total of 35 league goals over the previous two seasons. Alongside those two former players, Nikolasz Kovács is also a Honvéd academy graduate; the 26-year-old right-back made three NB I and 30 NB II appearances in Kispest.
Head-to-head history:
Looking at first-team matches, we have mostly met Ajka in friendlies so far (Honvéd II previously faced Ajka's first team six times).
Until 2020 the sides had met in only two friendlies: Kispest won 4–1 in 1970 and 4–3 in 2006.
Over the past four years, however, the teams have met no fewer than nine times. In the summer of 2020 we drew 2–2 in a friendly at the Ajkai Városi Sportcentrum, with Kristóf Tóth-Gábor and Barna Kesztyűs scoring our goals. That four-goal draw was followed by friendlies in Kispest: in 2021 we won 1–0 through a goal from Gergő Nagy, while in 2022 the two sides drew 1–1. Interestingly, our goal in that match was scored by Nikolasz Kovács, who now plays for Ajka. In the summer of 2023 we hosted Ajka again in a friendly and completed the match with a convincing 3–0 victory.
In November 2023 we hosted the green-and-whites at the Bozsik Aréna, this time in a league match, and won 1–0 thanks to a goal from Gergely Bobál.
Honvéd–Ajka 1–0 (highlights):
During the winter period the two teams met again in a friendly, which produced an eventful 2–2 draw. Interestingly, Ajka's goal was scored by Honvéd academy graduate Mihály Krisztián Nagy, while one member of the coaching duo, Bálint Gaál, provided the assist for their second goal. For us, Ábel Krajcsovics scored and Bence Jagodics put through his own net.
In May 2024 we played in Ajka for the third time, but for the first time in a competitive fixture. Goals from Ábel Krajcsovics and Zalán Kerezsi earned us all three points.
Ajka–Honvéd 0–2 (highlights):
We do have reason to seek revenge, because last August we also played Ajka in Round 4, only at home. Although Kerezsi's header gave us an early lead, Borsos and Doncsecz turned the match around for Ajka. Most recently, we travelled to Ajka in March, where we suffered a frustrating defeat. The green-and-whites won 2–0 through goals from Bence Babos and Levente Doncsecz, while two of our goals were disallowed and Dávid Holman was sent off.
Record against FC Ajka:

Referee:
Gábor Iványi will referee the match. He served as fourth official at several Honvéd matches in the spring, but this will be the first time he takes charge of one of our games as the main referee.
