Our youth teams also began preparations in mid-January and were able to test themselves against international opposition at the weekend. Our U19 and U16 teams played Admira Wacker in Austria, while our U17, U15 and U14 sides faced TSC Topolya age-group teams at the Honvéd Academy and in Serbia.

Márton Bogdánfi, head coach:
This was our first friendly, so the main focus was on workload and improving endurance, but alongside that we wanted to show our own style of play. The opponent was a likeable side because they played with a similar philosophy, so the match was suitable for practising. There were mistakes in our play on the ball due to the lack of familiarity, but overall we saw particularly positive things in our build-up play. We were aggressive defensively, though there is still room for improvement in the duels in these international matches. In the second half we were able to have more possession and control the match better, while remaining stable defensively throughout. Unfortunately we were not focused enough in front of goal, so we could not score further goals, but we are on the right track.

Viktor Petrók, head coach:
We played a useful match. We were able to practise our build-up against intense, aggressive pressing; many positive things came through, while a few mistakes also surfaced. We played with a good approach, but we still have a lot of work to do on the technical errors. All things considered, it was perfectly suitable as a first match.
U16:
Admira Wacker (Austria)–Budapest Honvéd FC 3–0 (2–0)
Honvéd: Czinki Dávid, Horváth-Garaba Botond, Ortó Fábián, Marinyák Magor, Domány Bence, Jakab Márk, Vérten Martin, Érsek Márk, Barton Olivér, Rotár Botond, Hajagos Hunor.

István Körtvélyesi, head coach:
We played our first friendly. The week’s training work had been especially good, so we were optimistic about the match. I mainly wanted to see the week’s tactical development targets and the quality of our play reflected on the pitch, and to a large extent they were. Our efficiency was at a medium level, although the conditions were also dreadful. To beat a hard-working, organised team that does not want to play football requires a different approach, and we were unable to produce that here. Instead, we ended up beating ourselves through individual mistakes, and we need to improve in that area. We hope our next match will be different and that we can reach a higher level of quality in every respect.
U15:
TSC Topolya (Serbia)–Budapest Honvéd 0–0 (0–0)
Honvéd: Petró Milán, Varga Botond, Szijjártó Péter, Palásti Krisztián, Török Zsolt, Menyhárt Márton, Józsa Roland, Nyiri Benedek, Pisont Richárd, Gerebenes Róbert, Malomsoki Milán.
Substitutes: Komzsik András, Matyó Gergő, Schill Dániel, Szabó Dominik, Balázs Péter, Vass András, Bolyki Hunor.
Tamás Szamosi, head coach:
In Topolya we played against a very combative side with good playing strength. Most of the match took place in midfield and the goals were rarely threatened. It was a useful game for our preparations. We will continue to face similar or even stronger teams, because it is particularly important to us that our players gain as much experience as possible in international matches.
U14:
Budapest Honvéd FC–TSC Topolya (Serbia) 1–1 (1–0)
Honvéd: Mező Milán, Karácsony Zoltán, Málint Kevin, Horváth Benedek, Bejenaru Krisztián, Fodor Zalán, Dóka Zsombor, Nnadi Chukwuemeka Benjmain, Kovács Botond, Palaga Bence, Hanzély Kevin.
Substitutes: Ehmann Márton, Csikós Zétény, Than Lam Phong, Oláh Sebők Zétény, Keindl Márk, Kamber Maksim, Mocsel József, Ole Okamide Olivér, Kerekes Hunor
Goal: Fodor Zalán
Gergely Fűzfa, head coach:
We started the match well, taking the lead as early as the fourth minute from a transition following a high turnover. In the first half we had several opportunities to increase our advantage, but mistakes repeatedly crept into the final pass. For the second half we practically changed the entire line-up, trying to split the workload evenly among the boys, which we succeeded in doing: everyone was able to play at least 45 minutes. There is still plenty to polish in our game, but that is natural because the boys had not played an eleven-a-side match for a month and a half, while several of them were also moving a little tired mentally because of the central entrance examinations. Overall, we were able to practise the tactical principles worked on during the week in match situations and everyone received an appropriate workload. We wish our opponents every success for the spring season!
