After defeating Soroksár, our team travelled to Turkey for a one-week training camp. Bonifác Csonka and István Pekár were not included in the travelling squad because of illness, while Ákos Sigér missed out through injury. Our new signing Kevin Varga, along with Ádám Szamosi and Ákos Zuigeber, both returning from injury, were part of the 26-man squad.
In the opening 25 minutes we noted Somogyi’s low shot towards the bottom-right corner. One minute later Karagandy scored from their first opportunity, when Bozhkov burst onto a corner from the left and fired into Tujvel’s net from close range (1–0). Towards the end of the half Baki, timing his run perfectly, could have equalised after a Csontos free-kick, but his effort was blocked by Kilzhiev.
The second half brought more action in front of the goals. First Tujvel saved a header, then Szamosi glanced on Gyurcsó’s corner and Nurgaliev gathered the loose ball. Shortly afterwards Litosh broke through one-on-one but placed his shot wide. In the 59th minute the Kazakhstan striker made no mistake. After an attack down the left Litosh was played in again and this time shot past Tujvel into the left side of the goal (2–0). Medgyes and Gyurcsó had smaller chances as the match continued, while Kevin Varga attempted an overhead kick, but none could find the net. In the 70th minute our 18-year-old goalkeeper Lőrinc Papp made his first-team debut and immediately made his first Honvéd appearance memorable: in the 90th minute Kállai kicked Zubaydilda inside the penalty area, giving the Kazakhstan side a penalty, but Papp read Litosh’s shot to his right and saved the spot-kick.
Unfortunately we could not avoid defeat despite that. Our next chance to improve comes on Tuesday at 13:00 Hungarian time against Czech side Slovacko.
