On April 1, the 99th anniversary of Ferenc Puskás's birth, the groups for the 18th Puskás–Suzuki Cup were drawn in Felcsút. The same eight teams as last year will compete in this year's edition. Our president Péter Szijjártó was among those taking part in the draw and stressed that in most parts of the world Hungary is still identified with our legend Ferenc Puskás.
Viktor Petrók's U17 side were drawn in Group B, where they will face Italian Juventus, Czech Slavia Prague and Greek Panathinaikos. The other group features record winners Real Madrid of Spain, Sporting of Portugal, Genk of Belgium and hosts PFLA. Placement matches will be played on the final day based on the teams' finishing positions in the groups.
Our club most recently won the tournament in 2016. Last year, however, our team led by Márton Bogdánfi went all the way to the final – beating Real Madrid among others – before Juventus stopped them. Our U17 side taking part this year won the U17 elite championship last season, finishing ahead of Vasas, Debrecen and Ferencváros among others, and this age group is again fighting for the title this season: with 29 points we sit behind MTK and Ferencváros, who have collected the same number, only because of an inferior goal difference.
