Our club will of course be represented at the U17 international football tournament, being held for the 17th time this year, as the only Hungarian club Ferenc Puskás ever represented.
The competition began in 2008 as a four-team tournament, but this May eight teams will take part. We have won the tournament five times in total, putting us second in the all-time standings behind Real Madrid. The Spanish record champions have lifted the trophy six times.
At the press conference, PAFC club and academy director Balázs Tóth announced the only newcomer to this year's field, Czech side Slavia Praha, as well as the schedule. The 2025 PSK will be held from 1 to 5 May, with the final and the third-place match broadcast live on M4 Sport.
Márton Bogdánfi's team – currently leading the elite age-group championship on points dropped – were drawn in Group 'B' alongside record winners Real Madrid, 2018 winners KRC Genk of Belgium, and tournament debutants Slavia Praha. Our team will begin their campaign against the Czech side on Friday, 2 May at 15.15.
Márton Bogdánfi, head coach:
„I was happy with the draw because you do not get to play Real Madrid every day. That in itself will be an unforgettable memory for us. Alongside the Spaniards, the Belgians and the Czechs also have strong youth systems. At the same time, we prepare for every match and every tournament with the intention of winning it and achieving the best possible result. This age group is very strong mentally. It is a perfect opportunity for my players to show what they can do against serious teams. I am sure they will all want to prove themselves. We are looking forward to the tournament with positive signs" - said the coach of our U17 team, for whom the PSK will not be unfamiliar territory.
„Over the years, the Puskás-Suzuki Cup has developed into a tradition and a prestigious international tournament. In our youth section it is a tradition to go and support this age group with drums, and I already experienced that as an U15 coach. I can safely say that even then every player thought about what it would be like to grow up and one day take the field in the cup as an U17 player, perhaps against teams such as Real Madrid, Sporting or Bayern Munich.”
