We spoke with our midfielder Rebeka Róth about the derby against MTK, the new format of the Simple Women's League, and Saturday's league match against Szekszárd FC.

Our women's team has now been unbeaten for six league matches. In the previous round, our players faced a serious challenge as they hosted MTK Budapest in Kispest. Based on the experience of recent years, we expected a tight clash against the capital side, and as anticipated, the derby brought a well-balanced battle once again, eventually ending in a 0–0 draw and shared points.

“I think everyone took their defensive duties very seriously in the first half, as the focus had been on that all week, but in such situations it's easy to go slightly overboard, which is why we had fewer chances in the first half. We discussed this during the break, and in the second half I think we managed to maintain that same defensive stability while also mobilizing extra energy in attack,” summarized our 24-year-old midfielder, Rebeka Róth.

Competition is fierce at the top of the Simple Women's League: with their victory over Astra HFC, Újpest moved up two places to take the league lead, while PAFC and Ferencváros sit just one point behind them. However, Ferencváros and ETO have played one game fewer in the league. The competition format has also changed this season: following the double round-robin regular season, teams finishing 1st–4th, 5th–8th, and 9th–12th will compete in a home-and-away play-off system for final positions.

“I think the introduction of the play-offs motivates more teams to finish in the top four, which is why the battle among the top six teams is quite tight right now. It is important for us to play closely contested matches because we learn far more from them than from winning by large margins. That's also why we want to make it to the championship play-offs—so we can play as many quality matches against strong opponents as possible and develop as much as we can,” our player shared.

Our team continues their league campaign on Saturday at 13:00 away to Szekszárd FC.

“We are definitely traveling to Szekszárd with the aim of continuing our unbeaten run and returning home with a victory. It won't be an easy game, as Szekszárd won't give in easily and the conditions won't be simple either, but that cannot be an excuse. From the first whistle, we want to show that we came for the three points and to score as many goals as possible.”
