As you know, our team drew 2–2 away to Paksi FC, last season's bronze medallists, in Matchday 3 of the OTP Bank Liga on Sunday. We came from behind twice: first Tamás Somogyi equalised, then Dominik Csontos converted a penalty in the 90th minute. Our young midfielder scored his first top-flight goal, becoming the tenth-youngest scorer in NB I history at 16 years and 355 days old. Ferenc Puskás ranks fourth on that list.
“We expected a tough match from the very start, and that is exactly what we got: plenty of long balls, physical battles and one-on-one situations. As I said beforehand, we expected lots of chances and goals, and I think that proved true. Everyone fought incredibly hard. We didn't manage to take the lead, but coming back from behind twice in a match like this is genuinely admirable and shows the strength of this team.”
Although we are only three rounds into the season, Tamás Somogyi has continued to raise his game against both MTK and Paks since making his debut. He provided the assist for his brother Ádám Somogyi against MTK, before finding the net against the Tolna side with a magnificent volley.
“It feels great to have managed to take another step forward. I can go even further by scoring twice or continuing to find the net, but I'm also happy when I play well and enjoy football, because those are the goals I've set myself.”
As in the previous two rounds, a Honvéd player has made the Team of the Week again. After Ákos Baki and Ádám Somogyi, Tamás Somogyi was named among the best eleven of Matchday 3. What's more, our talented youngster, recently honoured with the Puskás Award, scored M4 Sport's second-best goal of the round.
The OTP Bank Liga continues with a Budapest derby: we host Vasas at the Bozsik Arena on Friday at 5:30 p.m. Our player emphasised that he expects another similarly difficult match against the Angyalföld side, but the objective can only be to keep all three points at home.
“I'm expecting another very difficult match against Vasas. We saw how incredibly well Vasas played on Saturday, and they have good, technically gifted players too. Some of them make runs in behind, so I'm definitely expecting a tough game. But our aim is clear: we have to keep the three points at home.”
