In the final round of the year in the NB III South-East group, Szeged-Csanád Grosics Akadémia II were our opponents at the Honvéd Academy.
The first serious chance fell to Barna Kecskés after eight minutes, when Erik Kovács played him in after a fine move, but Illés saved his right-footed shot. We did not have to wait much longer for the opening goal, though. In the 12th minute Botond Horváth went around his defender on the left and rolled the ball into the middle for Hancz, who took a touch and shot left-footed. The ball changed direction off Norbert Gera’s leg but still ended up in the bottom-right corner, so we were already ahead inside the first quarter of an hour (1–0). Five minutes later Bence Gera curled in a cross from the right, but Borbás headed over from four metres. Dangerous balls continued to be delivered into both penalty areas, and the next big opportunity came in the 34th minute. Szeged took a corner that Norbert Gera met in the middle, but he shot straight into Matyi’s arms. We quickly punished the missed chance: after an attack down the right, Hancz threaded a pass between two defenders to Földi, who powerfully sent Kispest’s second goal into Illés’s net from eleven metres (2–0).
Igor Bilic’s side started the second half well. First Matyi had to tip Holló’s shot around the post, but in the 50th minute even he was helpless when our former player Milán Horváth met a loose ball first time and drilled it low into the bottom-right corner (2–1). Although the team in white launched more attacks, their first major chance to equalise arrived in the 81st minute, but Bence Matyi held Dániel Nagy’s curling effort. In the closing stages we came close to settling the match. Hetyei pressed Illés and the goalkeeper kicked the ball against our forward, who scored with the help of the post, but the assistant referee spotted handball when the ball was won, so the goal did not stand. The score remained unchanged until the final whistle, meaning our second team can head into the winter break after three consecutive victories, with 22 points collected. Our league campaign resumes on March 1 in Angyalföld.
