Previous meetings:
Sunday will be the 186th time the first teams of the two clubs meet in a league match.
- The first league meeting between the two teams was played on 3 December 1916, when we drew 1–1 at MTK’s ground; our goal was scored by Zoltán Túri.
- Kispest had to wait until 1919 for its first win, when Rudolf Jeny’s goal gave us a 1–0 victory over our Budapest rivals.
- The first emphatic Kispest away victory came in 1931, when we thrashed the red-and-blues 5–0. Lajos Kormos scored twice, while István Lukács, Lajos Keresztes and Imre Serényi also found the net.
- Between 1950 and 1956 we produced our longest unbeaten league run against Vasas, going 13 matches without defeat. During that period the record was nine Kispest wins and four draws, including a 4–4 draw and a 6–1 Kispest victory.
- The first Honvéd–Vasas cup final was played in 1955. Angyalföld won 3–2, and then also beat us in a high-scoring 1974 final, 4–3.
- One year after the Match of the Century, supporters in Angyalföld saw one of the highest-scoring games in the fixture, as Honvéd, led by Sándor Kocsis and Lajos Tichy, returned home from Fáy Street with a 6–3 victory.
- In 1964, 85,000 spectators witnessed Lajos Tichy’s magic and a Honvéd comeback live: in the 86th minute Vasas still led 3–2 in Kispest, then came two flashes from Tichy, first in the 87th and then in the 89th minute, and the match ended in a 4–3 Honvéd win.
- Between 1981 and 1984 we beat Vasas in six consecutive matches. We scored 14 goals in those games and conceded only three.
- We first met the red-and-blues in the second tier in the 2003/04 season. We won 1–0 at home and drew 1–1 away. Our goals were scored by István Borgulya and Gábor Vén.
- In the season of our most recent championship title we played Vasas three times in NB I, but only managed a win at home, losing both away matches.
- We first hosted Vasas at the Bozsik Aréna in 2022, when a late brace from Nenad Lukic decided the match and gave us a 2–0 win. That season we also won both league matches in Angyalföld: in the summer of 2022 through Ennin and Lukic, and in spring 2023 through a Lukic goal, winning first 2–1 and then 1–0.
