This week our team began preparations for the spring season of the Merkantil Bank Liga, and on Saturday, before the training camp in Turkey, we will play a home friendly against Soroksár, who spend the winter in 14th place in the second division.
Our opponents changed coaches during the winter break. Péter Lipcsei left the bench after eight and a half years and was replaced by Gábor Korolovszky. The Budapest side are not well placed in the league, sitting above relegation-zone Szentlőrinc only thanks to having more wins, and they have won just three of their 15 league matches. Their squad includes two former Honvéd players: Gyula Csemer played for our U19 and second teams early in his career and made his first-team debut against Szigetszentmiklós in 2013, while Norbert Kundrák made 21 NB II league appearances between 2023 and 2024. From our current squad, Gergő Rácz and Dominik Csontos previously represented Soroksár.
Dramatic victories in the recent past:
The most recent meetings between the two sides have repeatedly produced memorable moments. In March Kevin Kántor’s overhead kick decided the three points, while in early November Dominik Csontos volleyed the winning goal in the 90+3rd minute at Soroksár, allowing us to bring all three points home from the yellow-and-blacks.
