Our Sunday opponents have a long history, with the club more than 100 years old. During that time they have played in NB I twice, won the second division twice and the third division once. Since 1998, this is Szegedi VSE’s second season in NB III; they last played in the third tier in 2020–21, but as a newly promoted side were unable to stay up. This year relegation trouble is unlikely for Zoltán Mészáros’s team: they are 17 points clear of 14th place and currently sit an impressive sixth. In the previous round they earned a point away to title-chasing Gyula. Their squad also includes a former Honvéd academy player, Balázs Vas.
We have met Szeged three times in NB III so far. In 2020 we beat the southern side 4–1 through goals from Dávid László, Kristóf Tóth-Gábor and Dániel Németh, with the latter scoring twice. The return match was even more open: alongside a hat-trick from Dániel Lukács, Zalán Kerezsi, Barnabás Németh and Dávid László also got on the scoresheet.
At the beginning of September we won 4–0. Ádám Somogyi scored twice, while Koppány Kis opened the scoring and Kristóf Kenéz completed it.
