Story of the current season:

Several key players left Budafok during the summer, but among others they also signed a defender from us in Dávid Kálnoki-Kis. They began the season against us with a 3-3 draw, then beat Kisvárda away. In Round 4 they suffered a heavy 5-0 home defeat against Kazincbarcika, after which head coach László Dajka resigned and Márk Nikházi initially took over on an interim basis. It was the 36-year-old coach's first head-coaching role, and it went so well that after a few rounds he was confirmed permanently. No wonder, as he remained unbeaten in each of his first eight league matches. Budafok were meanwhile eliminated from the Hungarian Cup by Ferencváros, while their good league run ended in November at Szentlőrinc. Even so, they finished the calendar year on a positive note with a 2-1 win in Szeged on 1 December. The team did not lose a match during the winter preparations, and there were few changes to the squad: three players left, while goalkeeper Gellért Dúzs joined them from us on a six-month loan. In their most recent friendly they won 5-2 in Tatabánya.

Squad:

Budafok have several former Honvéd players: András Horváth was a member of our championship-winning side in 2016-17, while Dávid Kálnoki-Kis can call himself a Hungarian Cup winner with Honvéd. In addition, the on-loan Gellért Dúzs has so far kept goal for Honvéd in 40 competitive matches, while Krisztofer Szerető previously spent time in Kispest as an academy player. From our current squad, Sebestyén Ihrig-Farkas also represented Budafok from 2017 to 2022, scoring 27 goals during that period and progressing with the south-Buda club all the way from NB III to NB I.

In the recent past Attila Lőrinczy, Krisztián Adorján, Dávid László and István Soltész represented both clubs as players, while László Dajka did so as a coach.

Head-to-head history:

To reach the beginning of the shared history of the two clubs, we have to travel back 91 years. We met Budafok in a friendly, which ended in an 8-5 Kispest victory. Over the next seven years the sides tested themselves in two more friendlies, producing first a 5-1 Kispest win and then a 2-2 draw. In 1974 we won 2-0 in the Hungarian People's Republic Cup through goals from Sándor Pintér and Mihály Kozma, and 11 years later László Dajka's goal in the 106th minute secured Kispest's progress. The good run ended in 1996, again in a cup match, when Budafok celebrated a 4-3 win. After a long gap, in 2019 we visited Budafok for a friendly at the BMTE Sports Ground; unlike the high-scoring clashes in the fixture, the net did not move and the match ended 0-0.

The sides met in the top flight in the 2020-21 season. One day before Christmas Eve, three points went under the Christmas tree in a behind-closed-doors match, as we came from behind to win 2-1 in Budafok through goals from Dániel Gazdag and Norbert Balogh. In February 2021 the teams played another eventful match; unfortunately Budafok had reason to celebrate this time, as Sebestyén Ihrig-Farkas, now one of our players, scored the visitors' winner late on (2-3). The third instalment again took place on Promontor utca, when Mezghrani's thunderbolt gave us a one-goal victory.

The two teams met only once in a friendly over the next two years, which Budafok won 1-0.

We have met Budafok three times in NB II so far: in autumn 2023 we hosted them for the first time at the new Bozsik Aréna and, although we led twice, the match ultimately ended in a draw.

Honvéd–Budafok 2–2 (highlights):

Last April we suffered a 1-0 away defeat, while in the opening match of the current season we played out an eventful 3-3 draw in Budafok.

Budafok–Honvéd 3–3 (highlights)
