Our younger age groups also enjoyed an eventful week: our U8 and U10 teams took to the pitch in Wildon, Austria, at the Styrian Trophy international youth tournament, while our U11 squad featured in the Czech Republic.

Dávid Barati's side were drawn into one of the toughest groups, yet they held their own throughout the tournament. Although the results did not always reflect the balance of play, our head coach highlighted that our team conceded among the fewest goals in the tournament, clearly demonstrating how solid we were defensively.

Our U10s also represented our club in Austria, advancing to the round of 16 with four wins, two draws, and one defeat before securing their spot in the quarterfinals with a convincing 7–0 victory over Zalaegerszeg. Our boys marched all the way to the semifinals, where they suffered a 2–0 defeat against Sturm Graz. In the bronze medal match, two goals decided the contest in favour of LAC Inter, meaning Dominik Galkó's team finished in fourth place as the top Hungarian side at the tournament.

Márk Király's team headed to the Czech Republic, where they contested six matches. They finished the tournament with two wins, two draws, and two defeats. Our coach emphasized that gaining experience was paramount, as they faced opponents with playing styles rarely encountered in Hungary. The tournament also brought individual recognition for us: Boldizsár Takács was voted the best player of the tournament.

Dávid Barati, head coach:

“One interesting detail of the tournament was that in the U8 age group we played on 5×2-metre goals, which was a completely new scenario for the kids. Despite this, unfortunately we could not score as many goals as the run of play deserved. I feel we were drawn into one of the strongest groups, and I am left with a sense of what might have been regarding the results, because the scoreline did not at all reflect what happened on the pitch. Except for the match against Sturm Graz, we were able to control the game in almost every match and rarely allowed our opponents to reach our goal. The boys applied our pressing in the opposition half very well, preventing numerous attacks right there. Overall, I think the performance was distinctly encouraging. In defending, pressing, and general open play we looked very good, but finishing our chances is clearly the area we need to develop as a priority. If we can convert our chances with greater efficiency and shoot with more confidence, the outcomes of these matches can turn out completely differently. I would particularly like to highlight Félix Bíró’s performance. He has been working with us for several weeks now, and at this tournament he was definitely one of our standout players, contributing tremendously both in attack and defence.”

Dominik Galkó, head coach:

“We were able to participate in an impeccably organised, high-standard international tournament in Wildon, featuring a total of 32 teams across four groups of eight. We were drawn into Group B alongside Austria Wien and LAC Inter, among others, and progressed to the round of 16 in second place behind Austria Wien. We kicked off the group matches with an outstanding attitude. In the first match our positioning and supporting movements were still somewhat inaccurate in possession, but the positive takeaway is that we managed to correct these by the next game. Throughout the rest of the group stage we delivered confident performances: we recognised the balance between individual solutions and combination play well, and we contested duels boldly, winning a high percentage of them. The strength of our group is highlighted by the fact that three of the tournament’s top four teams emerged from our section. In the round of 16 we met Zalaegerszeg. We controlled the match from start to finish, putting in a dominant performance both with and without the ball to comfortably secure our spot in the quarterfinals. For a place in the last four, Újpest followed: it is always a privilege to play against the District IV side, as we regularly contest high-quality, closely fought matches, and this was no different. Eventually, a 2–1 victory sent us into the semifinals, where Sturm Graz awaited us. By that point, the day-long exertion and physical fatigue were clearly evident on the players. We became less precise on the ball, our supporting movements lacked dynamics, and when trying to regain possession we were occasionally hesitant against the ball carrier, which our opponents capitalised on. In the bronze medal match we met LAC Inter once again. Despite the fatigue, we remained true to our principles and again created several quality attacks and scoring opportunities. Chance conversion was not on our side in this match either, whereas our opponents managed to score from two long-range efforts, meaning we finished the tournament in fourth place. The tournament gave us plenty of positive feedback regarding the team’s development, while also clearly pointing out our next development objectives.”

Márk Király, head coach:

“Over the weekend we took part in an international tournament in the Czech Republic, where the Saturday journey already played a key role in team bonding. The joint activities brought the group together remarkably well, the boys visibly enjoyed their time together, and I feel this provided an excellent foundation for Sunday’s challenge. We played six matches at the tournament, primarily against Czech sides, including Slovan Liberec and hosts Brno. They were very tight games, typically decided by one or two goals either way. In the end, we finished the tournament with two wins, two draws, and two defeats. All in all, it was a very useful weekend. We faced teams representing playing styles rarely encountered in Hungary. Czech football culture differs from Hungarian in several ways: it is more physical, more aggressive, and at times verged on being overly robust. However, there is a tremendous amount we can learn from this. I am particularly proud of the boys because they took up the fight to the fullest and matched their opponents throughout. The tournament also clearly showed how different our playing philosophy is. We were the team attempting to play football, play out from the back, and build attacks constructively. In many instances this worked wonderfully, and we had multiple spells upon which we can build in the future. By the end of the tournament mental and physical fatigue was noticeable, but overall I am delighted with this weekend. We gained a wealth of experience, and I am certain this tournament will aid our development. Boldizsár Takács was named player of the tournament! Hajrá Honvéd, Csak a Kispest!”
