Summary of the current season:

BVSC-Zugló began their second consecutive NB II campaign under head coach József Csábi, who won the league title with Honvéd as a player. The Budapest side made an excellent start to the championship, going unbeaten in their first eight league matches. BVSC have not started the spring nearly as well, however, winning only one of their seven games so far. They were unable to play at home in the autumn and hosted their opponents in temporary venues in Óbuda and Tatabánya. Since returning to Szőnyi Road in the spring they have already played five matches there, but their home record is poor, with only one win – albeit in their most recent Zugló match, against Békéscsaba. BVSC also have the joint-highest number of draws in the league alongside Szeged; they faced that very side in the previous round and came away with a point (2-2).

Players with links to both clubs:

BVSC's squad includes two Honvéd academy products in Patrik Hidi and Ákos Király. Hidi was a member of our 2016-17 title-winning team and also celebrated a cup triumph in 2020.

Two home-grown players from our current squad also spent time at BVSC, both last season. Richárd Vernes represented the Zugló side in the autumn, while Sebestyén Ihrig-Farkas played for them in the spring.

Head-to-head history:

We have played close to 40 matches against BVSC so far. We first faced the Zugló side in a friendly in 1940, which ended in a goal-filled 5-5 draw. Before the first NB I meeting, the teams also met in friendlies and in a Trade Union Cup match, all of which ended in Honvéd victories in games featuring at least six goals. In 1958 we finally met the railway club in the top flight. BVSC won 2-0 in Kispest, while Honvéd won 1-0 in Zugló. A longer break followed in the shared history of the two teams. After a 1961 friendly that we won 4-3 thanks to four goals from Budai II, the sides next met in the Hungarian Cup in 1973, when goals from Mihály Kozma and József Pál sent Honvéd into the last eight.

The two clubs have played 20 NB I matches against each other in total, 18 of them between 1991 and 1999, and we also put together an eleven-match unbeaten run against BVSC in the top flight. In the season that ended with us winning the league title, we beat BVSC both home and away; József Csábi, now their head coach, was among the scorers in the match in Zugló. The teams also met in the 1996 Hungarian Cup final, which at the time was played over two legs. BVSC won the first leg 1-0 through a József Csábi penalty, but goals from Attila Piroska and János Árgyelán in the return match turned the tie around and delivered the fifth Hungarian Cup triumph in our club's history. The final produced a remarkable finish: Piroska scored in the 84th minute and Árgyelán found the Zugló net in the 86th.

BVSC remained unbeaten against us in our final five top-flight meetings, after which the teams each recorded one friendly victory in the very early 2000s.

We met BVSC again after a gap of twenty-two years. In July 2023 we recorded an emphatic 6–1 friendly win on Szőnyi Road, our second-largest victory in the fixture after the 6-0 friendly success in 1984.

BVSC–Honvéd 1–6 – highlights

Half a year later we hosted the yellow-and-blues in a league match at the Bozsik Arena, with Zalán Kerezsi replying late on to Levente Tóth's early goal. During the January preparation period, the scoreline from the '84 match was repeated as we again beat our capital-city opponents 6-0. We ended the season in Zugló; this time the goal-fest usually associated with the fixture failed to materialise and the teams drew 0-0.

BVSC–Honvéd 0–0 (highlights)

We last played BVSC at the end of September, when BVSC won through a Benkő-Bíró goal.
