Our team’s pre-season has also come to an end. On Sunday we hosted Slovak champions Spartak Myjava, who have been enjoying an excellent run. They have not lost a single match in the Slovak league in the 2025–26 season and currently sit top of the table. In the summer they took part in Champions League qualifying, successfully navigating the first round before being eliminated in the second.
We were in the fifth minute when Katarina Vredíková of the visitors aimed for the bottom-left corner, but Nikolett Krizsan intervened well, and our goalkeeper made another save a minute later. The visitors scored the opening goal through Sára Korvasová, but in the 12th minute we managed to equalise: Fanni Vachter found herself in a good position inside the penalty area, and visiting defender Maja Dimitrijevic tried to clear but, with an unfortunate touch, put the ball into her own net (1–1). In the 17th minute we took the lead: after Petra Gégény’s pass, Fanni Vachter smashed the ball into the bottom-right corner (2–1).
Although we came close to extending our lead to two goals, Myjava goalkeeper Sofia Dupkalová made two saves in quick succession. Ten minutes before the end of the first half, Sára Korvasová converted the penalty awarded to the visitors, so the teams went into the break at 2–2.
In the 54th minute Simona Horváthová took a corner and curled the ball into the bottom-right corner of the net, but the referee disallowed the goal for obstructing the opposing goalkeeper. Seven minutes later Blanka Bokor came on as a substitute, making her first appearance since her injury.
As the closing stages approached, Petra Gégény floated the ball into the penalty area for Vachter, whose header went down the middle and was saved by Dupkalová. We also came close to retaking the lead in the final ten minutes when Simona Horváthová took a corner, but her delivery curled over the crossbar. One minute before the end of regulation time, Petra Gégény scored the winner, giving our team a 3–2 victory over the Slovak champions (3–2).
Next Saturday our team will play away to Viktória FC in the Hungarian Cup quarter-final.
Balázs Dörnyei: “There used to be a saying in football that you have to score when the opponent has no time to respond. We carried that out perfectly today, because the final whistle came straight after the winning goal. We started the match well, but made an individual mistake that gave our opponents a penalty. We also have to get used to the environment, as we have only trained on grass for one day so far. It took us time to get up to speed and we allowed the opposition too many opportunities. I’m pleased that we were able to discuss our first-half mistakes during the break and that in the second half the opponent no longer got in behind us because of those errors. I wouldn’t say winning a friendly is a matter of life and death, but today we specifically prepared to win, and that is why the team fought until the final moment."
Blanka Bokor: “It felt very good to return to the pitch and help the team again, as I hadn’t played since November. Pre-season went by quickly; we have a lot of training behind us and the friendly matches also went well. I hope we can finish with a similar result in the cup match next week."
