The magic number four? Csepel once celebrated four NB I league titles, although opinions differ as to how much Csepel SC can be considered the official legal successor of the former champion Csepel. In any case, on Sunday we face the Csepel side currently playing at the highest level. The number four also applies to the present season from another perspective: four teams promoted from the fourth tier are playing in the South-Eastern group this season, and we have already faced three of them. We beat Tiszaföldvár 4-1 and both Szegedi VSE and Gyulai Termál FC 4-0. The fourth promoted side is Csepel SC, whom our second team face at 11:00 on Sunday at the MFA Utánpótlás Központ.
- Csepel can have no complaints about the start to their season, as they immediately took a point away to ESMTK, a side regularly among the front-runners.
- Csepel do not have one outright goalscorer, with four players jointly leading on two goals each. One of them is Dominik Pintér, who was an academy player in Kispest up to U19 level.
- Besides him, András Dunai, Levente Szűcs and Adrián Kruppai also spent time in Honvéd's youth system, with the latter also making his debut for our NB III side.
- Csepel sit 9th in the table with 17 points, with a record so far of 5 wins, 1 draw and 4 defeats.
- Away from home, however, Csepel have been the weakest team so far, collecting the fewest points (1) in the league.
- Csepel once celebrated four NB I titles, and in 1981 they were finalists in the Central European Cup.
- After winning the BLSZ First Division, Csepel successfully negotiated the play-off against Tatai AC and returned to the third tier.
- In the previous round they beat Kecskemét II 2-0.
Shared history:
Honvéd II last faced Csepel in the 2016-17 season. We won the home match 3-1 through goals from Ákos Bíró, Barna Tóth and András Márton. Interestingly, Bence Gergényi also played in that match; among players developed at the MFA who have made the senior national-team squad without having previously received a call-up, he is the most recent. The return fixture in Csepel ended goalless.
