Our women's team has come through an eventful but highly successful week, beating DVTK 4–3 on penalties after a 1–1 draw in normal time in the Hungarian Cup semi-final to book our place in the final. Balázs Dörnyei's side took the lead through Eszter Czinege in the 56th minute, but the visitors equalised late on after taking advantage of a misplaced pass. In the shootout, however, we remained calm and clinical, so after ten years we will contest the final again.
“I feel very good. This is obviously a huge victory for the team and it was one of our main goals for the season, so I'm very happy for the team and excited about the final. We fought hard throughout the entire match. There was a lot of tension because we had been preparing for this game for a long time, but I felt we were ready. The equaliser was of course not ideal for us and we went through some difficult moments. Despite that, I believed in the team all the way and believed we could win the match. Obviously it is not an easy situation when something like that happens, but you have to look forward – and that is what we did, and in the end we won” – said our 23-year-old goalkeeper, who was making her second competitive appearance in Honvéd colours. Agnes Stenlund joined our club in January; she began her career in Sweden before playing in the US college system.
There is little time for celebration and recovery, however, because on Saturday we travel to MTK in Round 15 of the Simple Women's League. Our opponents are second in the table on 35 points – two behind leaders Ferencváros – and their record over the last five matches is four wins and one draw. Although our goalkeeper said Wednesday's match took a lot out of the team, everyone will be ready for Saturday.
“We will prepare well. We had the chance to rest a little and we have also done a lot of rehabilitation and recovery work. We will be ready for the match,” she said, before adding that her main personal goal is to become the best goalkeeper she can be.
“Winning the cup is obviously a major goal for the team. As for me, I want to become an even better goalkeeper, be a reliable presence behind the defence and make sure my team-mates can trust me completely.”
