On Saturday it was our U11 side’s turn to test their skills. We were drawn in a group alongside FK Austria Wien, FC Liefering, SC Melk and SV Horn. Márk Király’s players opened the tournament with a six-goal victory before recording another convincing win against Austria’s SV Horn. After seven matches, our team finished 15th with three wins, one draw and three defeats.
Our U12 team played its group matches a day later, progressing from Group C after winning two of its three games. In the quarter-finals, Árpád Kovács’s side faced FK Austria Wien and gained revenge for a defeat suffered a week earlier. Our youngsters beat the Austrian team by four goals to secure a place in the last four. Just one goal separated our U12s from the final, but the disappointment also affected their performance in the bronze-medal match against LAZ Stockerau, and our academy players ultimately finished fourth.

Márk Király, head coach:
“We took part in a very high-quality Austrian tournament in Jauerling, where we came up against renowned teams such as Austria Wien, Red Bull Salzburg, Liefering and First Vienna. I believe matches like these are incredibly important to our development, as we can measure ourselves against strong opponents, see where we stand and identify areas in which we still need to improve. We played seven matches at the tournament, finishing with three wins, one draw and three defeats. Our first defeat came against Austria Wien, 2–1, in an extremely close and competitive match. But we also achieved some excellent results: we beat the hosts, Melk, 6–0 and Horn 3–0. Overall, the team performed very consistently and maintained a good level throughout. I see this as a particularly big step forward compared with our previous tournament, as this time we showed clear progress both in results and in organisation. I am very proud of the boys. We had to play after a long journey that took an entire day, yet they performed superbly both physically and mentally. Their attitude, fighting spirit and concentration were exemplary throughout. It is especially important to me that we showed we can compete with teams of an exceptionally high standard.”

Árpád Kovács, head coach:
“The tournament was played six-a-side plus a goalkeeper, even though our age group already plays eight-a-side plus a goalkeeper. Nevertheless, the size of the pitch meant we could play very intense matches with plenty of individual battles against quality opposition. We were able to dominate and control most of our matches. The mental strength and attitude we showed in the quarter-final against Austria Wien were outstanding: we beat them and gained revenge for the result of the previous Wednesday’s friendly. Unfortunately, we then lost the semi-final to an unlucky goal, and we could not recover properly for the bronze-medal match either. In the end, we had to travel home feeling a little disappointed.”
