We are delighted to announce that Erik Kovács has signed a three-year contract with our club. The 17-year-old forward joined our academy from UTE's youth system in summer 2023. He quickly became a key player in our youth teams, scoring regularly for our U16, U17 and U19 sides.
Having worked his way through our youth ranks in recent years, his performances and attitude earned him a first-team opportunity last season. At just 16 years and 111 days old, he made his senior debut against BVSC-Zugló. That made him the second-youngest academy graduate in our history to appear for the first team, and the 73rd-youngest player overall to wear the Honvéd shirt.
The young forward has previously spoken clearly about the goals he has set himself. At the time, he outlined his plans as follows:
“I have long-term goals as well as things I want to achieve in the near future. I wanted to get some minutes with the first team as soon as possible, and surprisingly that happened very quickly. I'd also like to get back into the national youth team. In the longer term, I'd like to try playing abroad for as big a club as possible. At 16, I don't want to look any further ahead than that for now.”
Erik can continue to build his career at our club over the next three years. His contract extension also underlines that we see the young forward as part of our long-term plans.
