After Wednesday’s successful home match against Tiszaföldvár (4–1), our team travelled to league leaders Monor SE on Sunday afternoon. The game did not start well for Kispest, as László Horváth gave Monor the lead against Lőrinc Papp as early as the fifth minute. The home side remained in front for 82 minutes, but then our substitutes made the difference, with Szilveszter Hetyei scoring twice to turn the match around.
Gábor Kovács: – In the first 10 minutes we were a little overawed, which was because we were playing the league leaders. We fielded a very young starting line-up and conceded as early as the fifth minute. Over the next 80 minutes, however, the players did what we had planned beforehand. Little by little we wore our opponents down. Monor were also playing their second match in four days and you could see that they were tired mentally and physically. Our young team, helped by the substitutes, then dominated and we managed to turn the score around at the end of the match.
Szilveszter Hetyei looked tired during the week, so we agreed with him that he could help the team more by coming on as a substitute. He accepted that, our plan worked and we won the match. What was not part of our plan was conceding a goal at the start. Our intention was to get through the first half without conceding and then win the match in the second half. We managed to win because our squad was deeper, whereas our opponents could not rotate because they had the same starting line-up as in their previous match. That gave us an advantage.
