Our team travel to Újpest on Sunday for Matchday 5 of the Simple Women’s League. Ahead of the match, Eszter Csáki spoke about the draw earned against ETO, her position and what makes the upcoming derby special.

Our women’s team head into the derby against Újpest on the back of a four-goal draw. Balázs Dörnyei’s side welcomed ETO FC to the Bozsik Arena on Wednesday and, although we took the lead twice, the visitors eventually equalised in added time. Our team had never previously managed to take a point from ETO FC, but we finally broke that run.

“I’m really proud of the team. I think we fought incredibly hard and everyone gave absolutely everything. I could see that everyone wanted to win. I’m sorry it ended in a draw, but compared with last season it’s actually a huge result. Last year we couldn’t beat ETO or even hold them to a draw. This time we managed it. We also wanted to go into the Újpest match with a win behind us, but I’m still completely satisfied with the draw,” summed up Eszter Csáki. Our young player stressed that the team can build on Wednesday’s performance and that the result should give them plenty of strength for Sunday’s away match at Újpest.

“I really hope we can only build on this. It will give us the strength to go all out for the win on Sunday and hopefully get it. Personally, I’m really looking forward to the match. When we played there last year, it happened to be my birthday and we won 3–0, so it was a very memorable game for me.”

Last season was a defining one for our 19-year-old player. She scored her first NB I goal against Szeged and contributed a hat-trick to the team’s win against Szekszárd.

“I’m sometimes used as a full-back and sometimes as a winger. The goals tend to come when I play further forward, but my aim is to help the team with both goals and assists. If I have a defensive role, I want to give my absolute best defensively. I much prefer playing in attack: I love dribbling, playing creatively and providing assists, but I don’t think anything compares with scoring a goal.”
