MTK threatened in the opening minutes, with Vágó trying her luck from distance, but her shot went over. In the 10th minute, however, the visitors made no mistake as Siklér scored (0–1). Széchenyi was called into action several times after that and brilliantly saved another effort from Siklér. We managed to equalise late in the first half: taking advantage of a defensive error by MTK, Vachter found the net (1–1). It was her fourth goal of the season. The teams went into the break level.
After the restart Siklér struck again, and her second goal restored MTK's lead (1–2). Our situation became more difficult in the 80th minute when Blanka Bokor was sent off after receiving her second yellow card. MTK tried to settle the match and Vágó's long-range effort also posed a threat, but it went wide. In stoppage time, though, it was our turn to celebrate: Franciska Simon equalised in the 93rd minute, so after a tremendous fight we bravely kept one point at home (2–2).
Head coach Balázs Dörnyei: “If I think about where we were weak last week, I mentioned our play on the ball: we could hardly put attacks together and I missed the aggression. This time, however, the girls had that; they were very focused. It is true that we again started slowly, like a ‘diesel engine’, and conceded from an avoidable situation, but we stayed in the match throughout and managed to equalise. In the second half MTK had one chance and scored it, while we did not really have an opportunity, yet we still played a very combative match. It says a lot that we were able to equalise while a player down; in fact, in the last 10 minutes we were attacking and managed to impose our will on MTK. It was not pretty football, but it was a real fighting Honvéd performance. I am very proud of the players.”
Franciska Simon:
“First of all, I am very happy that I was able to score, especially in the final minute. The whistle went afterwards, so it was an incredible feeling and my team-mates jumped on me. It is a huge thing. I think that in the first half we were completely equal opponents for MTK, so the draw was a fair result. Then early in the second half we conceded an avoidable goal, and around the 80th minute we went down to ten. After that we threw everything forward, and I think it paid off. In the last minute Adri Végh took the ball to the byline, looked up and cut it back; I controlled it with my right and finished with my left.”
