Budapest Honvéd II hosted Pénzügyőr SE in round 3 of NB III. The visitors took the lead in the 18th minute after a defensive lapse. It already looked as though there would be no more goals before the break, but in stoppage time the green-and-whites doubled their advantage through Labát.
Head coach Zsolt Laczkó made one change at half-time, sending Kenéz on in place of Kalocsány. Honvéd II moved up a gear in the second half, and in the 54th minute this brought a reward after an excellent individual effort. Dominik Hancz received a good forward pass down the left while still in our own half. Around the level of the penalty area he brought the ball under control, went past two defenders and then unleashed a thunderous shot from 18 metres into the top-right corner. In the closing stages we fought with great determination for an equaliser, but this time we were unable to earn a point.
Another notable event in the match came in the 68th minute, when Zalán Átrok entered as a substitute. He had suffered a serious injury against Haladás last August and returned to competitive action after 349 days!
Zsolt Laczkó: “In the first half we were unable to neutralise the opponent’s crosses from wide areas. We did not react well to those situations even though we had prepared for them and practised them. I expected more from our attacking play in the first half. There was too little movement and not enough runs in behind. That changed a little in the second half. Early in the half we scored a very nice goal and managed to put the opponent under pressure. The closing stages became a completely open, end-to-end game, and if we had been just a little more experienced and composed, we could have scored the equaliser. In pursuit of that equaliser, we mobilised all our strength at the end, but unfortunately we could not score. We have to erase the first half, but we can build on the second.”
