We last played at the PMFC Stadium in November last year. That day, the first half ended 1–1 before the hosts came from behind with a last-minute goal to win the match. The spring fixture also had a dramatic ending: after a goalless first half, four goals were scored in seven minutes towards the end and the game finished 2–2. With those memories in mind, there was no doubt that we travelled to Pécs determined to take all three points.
In the fifth minute, Fanni Vachter attempted to lob the goalkeeper but sent the ball wide of the left post. In the eighth, our defender Maria Palama blocked an effort and our defenders then cleared again following a free kick from Elma Husić. Shortly afterwards, the hosts threatened once more: Lili Bódis crossed into the middle, but our goalkeeper Nikolett Krizsan timed her run off the line perfectly and gathered the ball. Linett Bozsik picked up possession inside the penalty area and aimed for the top right corner, but her shot went over the bar. The opening goal came in the 22nd minute, when Maria Palama stepped up to take a penalty. Our Greek defender calmly converted it, scoring her first goal in Honvéd colours. (0–1)
After half-time, Fanni Vachter took a free kick, but home goalkeeper Noémi Török managed to hold the ball. There was no shortage of drama this time either: a few minutes later Jázmin Farkas fired a shot from 16 metres, which Nikolett Krizsan kept out with a full-length dive. Our 18-year-old goalkeeper made another confident save from a Husić set piece. In the 54th minute, Vachter laid the ball back to Horváthová, who aimed for the top left corner but shot over the bar. In the 65th minute, Panna Nagy turned towards goal after a pass from Eszter Csáki, but Török saved. Fanni Vachter also came close to scoring, sending the ball only a few centimetres past the post. The home side put our defence under pressure in the closing stages, but we preserved our one-goal advantage and took all three points in Matchday 3 of the Simple Women’s League.
Our women’s team host ETO FC at the Bozsik Arena on Wednesday before continuing their league campaign away at Újpest on Sunday.

Balázs Dörnyei, head coach: “We played two different halves. Some things unfolded in a similar way, but overall the two halves were very different. I think both teams were a little more tired in the second half and the tempo dropped. In the opening four or five minutes, Pécs started better and were quite aggressive. We waited patiently for that period to pass, then did some good things on the pitch over the next 20 to 25 minutes. Once again we lacked sharpness in front of goal and had too few players getting into the box, so we tried to change that at half-time. We couldn’t win at Pécs last year, so these are definitely three valuable points. We can play better than this, but we need to be a little calmer and more patient."
Maria Palama: “I’m delighted to have scored my first goal for Honvéd. I’m also really happy I was able to help the team, of course, but this was the result of everyone’s hard work. We fought hard. It wasn’t our best match, but we had some good moments. We’ll analyse the game and correct our mistakes so we can be better in the next match."
