Petra Gégény joined our team on loan in January alongside Petra Nyul and Eszter Czinege. She arrived with valuable experience and a strong youth background. She admitted she was initially apprehensive about the change of environment, but found an open and supportive community.
“I feel very good. The team is close-knit, the group is good and we organise lots of activities together. I was a little worried about what the change would be like, but the girls made it very easy for me, so the transition was smooth and the group is welcoming. I think an athlete needs a change and new impulses from time to time. That is also part of an athlete’s life” – our forward told us.
Our women’s team ended pre-season successfully, as Balázs Dörnyei’s side beat Spartak Myjava 3–2 last Saturday. Petra Gégény scored the winning goal in the 89th minute. Speaking about pre-season, our player stressed that the team is extremely close-knit both on and off the pitch and is looking forward to competitive matches with excitement.
“A striker’s job is to score goals, but managing to score the winner in an important match gave me a very good feeling.”
On Saturday our team will visit Viktória FC in the Hungarian Cup quarter-final. Our opponents are the most successful women’s team in Szombathely: the 32-year-old club are two-time champions, six-time silver medallists and seven-time bronze medallists, three-time Hungarian Cup winners and two-time cup runners-up. The Szombathely side currently sit tenth in the top flight. Looking at the past, the teams have met five times so far, with our record standing at two defeats and three draws.
“We play football because we love it. We must not put too much pressure on ourselves. I’m very positive and I believe in the team. Against Viktória FC on Saturday, our clear goal is to progress” – our player concluded. Her personal goal is to get as much playing time as possible and contribute to the team’s success with goals. She also stressed that she wants to finish in the best possible position in both the cup and the league.
